“The outrage we witnessed at the Olympics Marie Antoinette portion was kind of dumb. Every opening ceremony infuses the countries history within it. A large and important part of French history is their republicanism and anti monarchism and Marie Antoinette is the most famous French royal internationally because she became a symbol of that French republicanism. It made sense to highlight it. It was a showcase of French history. People need to realize not everyone is obsessed with royalty, and the French have a long standing culture of being anti royal so I don’t even know why people thought they would ignore their own history and culture to appease a few royals and royalists.” - Submitted by Anonymous

On November 13th, 1810, Marie Josephine of Savoy, Comtesse de Provence and Titular Queen of France, died of edema at the age of 57.
Originally buried in Westminster Abbey, her remains were removed on her husband’s orders about a year later and moved to her native Sardinia. She was reburied in the Cagliari Cathedral, where her brother had a large monument to her erected.
