Nine Lashes, Kye Kye, Pawnshop Kings - 01-28-2014
Nine Lashes - From Water to War - The first heavy release I have gotten this year and it is pretty good. I must admit it is a bit more pop hard rock and softer overall than I expected from this band. They have added several more layers of synth than I remember them having in the past. That is not to say they have gone soft. This album will melt your face if you want it to with their flavor of modern hard core rock. If you like your music on the heavier side then GIVE IT A LISTEN.
Kye Kye - Fantasize - This ambient electronic group has gathered quite a following and recognition so I decided to check it out. It's good stuff. I dig the vocals and the ambient music style. It's good music to relax to, read a book to, or just to have on. I do find the vocal a little up in the mix from time to time taking away from the ambient feel of the album but overall I like the style and sound. The production is solid and I can see why so many have come to love this band. GIVE IT A LISTEN.
Pawnshop Kings - PSK (ep) - With name like Pawnshop Kings I was hoping for a bluesy rootsy musical style. The first track does not disappoint and give hope for greater things. While they do keep a blueish and roots feel to the album it is very polished. The grit and grime that is inherent to the style is gone. While the album is good and the lyrics well written, the production choices to try to make a more commercial album keeps it from landing on greatness and greater commercial success. GIVE IT A LISTEN.
