There’s not much to complain about this year. The weather was perfect. It was dry, a bit sunny and the temperature was nice. The only thing I was bumped about were the horrible wooden benches we got. This year I got a lot of pictures of part of the float carts as I was sitting way to close to the street. None the less it was great. Some bad things had happened: Neerijnen got a flat tire and had to be removed for a bit until they had it fixed. Culemborg had a lot of hydraulic problems. The wolf should be in attack mode; high on his hind legs, moving head, ears and mouth. The hydraulics of the hind legs failed and later on the head snapped. (It didn’t came completely off, but it was dragging on the ground and had to be removed from the parade). I brought them a fruit basket with a card the next day as support (as if they haven’t seen enough fruit :P) Something I thought was a bit funny but I forgot to take a picture of: Somewhat behind Culemborg came the children with their creations. One of them was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood. She stood right before me as we watched the defeated wolf in the distance.
Buren won, off course...this was kind of expected. They are great builders and they know it. Echteld got 2nd place and it felt like they were way more exited to be 2nd than Buren was with their 1st place.
Strange things we’ve seen this year: Melting Puinguins. Tom and Leon are known for edgy designing choices. Most often the judges don’t really appreciate it. This time they used a wax substance (candle wax?) to make it look more melted. But due to the very high temperature of the week prior it melted prematurely. Then we had the dead cow of Zoelen. The morbid look reminded me a bit of the Chicken Embryo’s of Paul. It’s not something you’d like to see on a party. None the less it was well executed. And last we’ve got Neerijnen with their vampire bat stage. They scored a lot of points by using live music/ singers/ dancers on their stage and received an award for it.
We ended on 6th place. I’m content with it. I wasn’t sure we’d do that well this year. I had a lot of side notes ready on things that just weren’t quite “it”. We just didn’t have the people, experience or time (or money) to pull of something like Buren.
Everyone who participated: Thank you for once again a lovely FruitCorso. I hope to see you all again next year. I’m just not sure where I’ll be building next year as our club has a bunch of problems to continue. But we’ll see. :)
