Ha ha! So you're also working on that Fitzsimmons wedding. lol ^^ I love that! <3 Fan-service is not necessary a bad thing and especially in a show that doesn't do it. Once in a while it doesn't hurt and it's for the fans. ;) I liked Bones' wedding. ;) It's probably an unpopular opinion but I didn't like the real proposal so I agree I want to like that part! so a calm ceremony at the end of an ep would be lovely. Jemma in a wedding dress is a 5 years old dream so they better not fucked that up!

Okay true, giving fans a happy moment is good! And even though a wedding might have little to do with the apocalyptic events and the overall plot, an emotional breather can be nice for a change. It's not just fanservice though, it's good for the characters and the storytelling! It's something that has been set up and they have allowed the narrative to address. But yes, it's especially nice for the fans since all the fans are tired of being constantly tortured.

But if it's written as pure fanservice, then the writers are literally ignoring their own body of work and going out of their way to give the fans a "service" above and beyond what they would otherwise do, except that they think the fans want it. And in order to do that, they change the tone, ignore the setting (i.e. there’s work to do and wedding planning takes time), and often mishandle characters. Fanservice is not written for the characters or the rest of the show in mind, just with the fans in mind. That's just not a good way to write because fandom is often incongruent with the realities of cold, hard canon...

If it feels cringey and out of place, or if it puts the rest of the season on hold, if it is blown out of proportion to the rest of the episode, then it is JUST for fanservice. Fans can feel rewarded by a scene without it being written as fanservice. In fact I tend to think fanservice is lazy writing and fans would be more pleased with a genuinely touching, appropriately balanced quiet moment that serves purpose within the episode, providing a sense of hope and refreshment to the characters lives.

I want a reward, not a service. I’ve earned the reward. The proper reward is given after the context of completing a specific challenge. A service might just be anything done for me at any given moment. Hope that makes sense.

As far as the proposal... I mostly did LOVE it... But I will admit they both jumped straight into it a little more quickly than I expected... but I loved Fitz deciding the universe can’t stop them... this scene is such a tease, but it shows us what Fitz is thinking about marriage and their future... and then Jemma still gets to keep her words about mentioning marriage next time she sees Fitz (and this is Fitz, not just the broken pieces), plus I love seeing both of them wanting to get married....both of them are so absolutely certain they need to get married ASAP... and yeah it’s squeezed into an action moment... because it’s urgent to both of them and they don’t want to wait to see if they survive, so they prioritize each other over their circumstance for just a moment. I’d prefer this engagement to none or to a generic, cliche date night with the ring in the champagne.

The more I think about Jemma in a wedding dress and planning a wedding... the more simple I want them to go... I used to want her in a gorgeous gown, but after going wedding dress shopping with my sister... I feel like Jemma should go simple. Neither she nor Fitz care about superficial things. But of course I want her to look nice. It is still her WEDDING DAY!
