my jinx is,,, a dumb danger babey. like y’know those people who are intelligent but oh so fuckin dumb ? that’s jinx. their au is a variant of fellswap that i’ve claimed as my own, with my own interpretations of each of the characters - that’s why it’s nicknamed fs-j whenever i do something for it. the monsters brought their way of living to the surface in this au; ergo, the queen still holds a lot of power, the royal guard is still active, & the only thing stopping another war from happening are the efforts of the ambassador & the fact that monsters and humans, for the most part, keep to themselves.
they work doing deals & favors for desperate people who don’t want the illegal stuff they want doing linked back to them - jinx will do whatever they need (be it stashing things for a while all the way down to ‘getting rid’ of someone asap) so long as the client can repay them with something they want. this could be money, trinkets, or sometimes even favors & protection from people who aren’t particularly big fans of theirs. chief among these is the royal guard, from whom they got those marks burned into their skin - you can see two of them in that coloured sketch, & there’s another prety big one on their back.

the vast majority of humans and monsters are segregated due to the major power shift, no one really wants anything to do with eachother and everything remains relatively peaceful that way. there are some places where humans and monsters are living and work together, although those are rare in this variation of the au
hunter & hickory live in one of the monster-dominated towns, and are actually a lot more well-off than they were underground. thanks to hunter’s ties with alphys, he managed to claw his way back into the ranks of the royal guard, and became one of the captains again in only a matter of months now that he’s fully capable again and perhaps even more dangerous than before, hickory is still pretty sick, and stays at home a lot - but he’ll accompany his brother whenever he can so that people know not to mess with either of them. because, to be honest, people are still assholes.there might not be another all-out war, but there’s definitely some animosity between humans and monsters for obvious reasons, and sometimes they even turn on themselves.
so, there’s still danger in not having a high enough status that provides protection
but, the fact that hunter ends up having a high status and making a name for himself again, isn’t always a good thing. this is where the whole thing gets very selfinserty, because this is where jinx comes in!
y’see, jinx in this au is one of the few humans living in the monster-run town hunter & hickory are in (well, i say ‘living’, they mostly just camp out there a lot in the section of an old car factory they claimed as theirs). they’re known for doing favors for people, desperate people, on the condition that they can pay them something they want in return. this can be anything from money to another favor. they’ll help with whatever you need, whether it’s keeping tabs on certain people or if you want someone dead as soon as possible.because of their particular choice of work, they’ve had run-ins with the royal guard a couple times. and, it’s safe to say that the guard are nothing if not harsh even in the best of circumstances.even if jinx has escaped every time they’ve been captured so far, they’ve kinda got a collection going on - a collection of brands burned into their skin, that is. the way that the guard classifies prisoners (particularly human prisoners, cause skin) is by branding them with different symbols that mean different things, so that if they escape they can be more easily found and brought back quicker. jinx has a grand total of four brands, each of which have a different meaning to the guard. (the one on their shoulder means ‘murderer’, the one just next to that one means ‘thief’, the one on their collarbone is a general mark given to anyone arrested more than once, and the big one on their side is the sign for ‘kill on sight’. they’re currently the only known human in the au to have this brand and still be alive)
in fact, the only reason that jinx is still alive is because there are quite a few people that owe them favors, or have chosen to pay them in the form of protection. this is what leads to them encountering hunter, as well as his rise in power.
there’s a lot of people who want hunter - and probably the rest of the guard - dead. jinx is well known at this point for getting rid of people no matter who they are, so long as they’re payed fairly. so they get an offer from a group consisting of both humans and monsters that coincidentally really don’t like the royal guard; find and kill hunter, and in return they’ll recieve protection in the form of that group keeping an eye out for them no matter where they are in the town.
but, thing is - when they find hunter, he offers them a better deal. if they don’t kill him, he’ll offer them protection from the royal guard on the condition that they do as he says. they can still run their ‘business’, so long as none of the deals interfere with his orders
and that’s how a lowlife misfit human ends up essentially living with two skeletons and their cat, with many shenanigans surely ensuing :D
in regards to your design concepts (which look pawsitively clawsome btw) for 'Hunter' have you through about the arm protector being similar to a Vambrace from Grimm?- which also basically protects the arm from creatures from seriously injuring it with their teeth, but actually has a hidden blade attached~ (it could possibly have delta rune as a marking?)
oo, yeah! looking at pictures of them, they’re pretty much exactly what i was going for! i didn’t think about the hidden blade though - that’s definitely something he’d want.
the delta rune would be a nice touch, too! thanks so much for the suggestion <3
