Ten days. That's how long Andy had been in town, constantly haunted by the feeling of their sire being close. It was a feeling the younger vampire hadn't experienced in over a hundred years, and yet it was unmistakable. Accompanying it was a twisting feeling in their gut that Andy couldn't quite put words to. Anxiety, dread... A culmination of a hundred years of festering emotions that they'd been suppressing.
Could Alice feel it too? The physical closeness of the creature that she'd created. Or had the older vampire learned to tune that out? Andy had long ago accepted that they knew very little about what Alice was actually capable of.
The fact that, so far, no one in town had even heard the name 'Alice Rosenthal' didn't sit well with Andy, though one of the first things Alice had drilled into them was to have a new identity ready to go, to shed one skin an inhabit another. Yet it was a lesson Andy had never been able to put into practice.
Tonight, however, Andy couldn't ignore the prickling at the back of her neck any longer. Taking a physiological unnecessary, yet centering breath, brown eyes slowly closed, Andy dragging down the walls that had been meticulously built over the last century in the absence of Alice. It washed over like a wave, catching Andy off-guard with the strength of it, taking a moment to adjust. But the pull was undeniable, like a compass.
The building looked more like a warehouse than anything else, though it seemed it was host to some kind of club. It was still early, Andy not sure if the place was actually open, but managed to slip inside regardless, the hairs on the back of their neck prickling. Darkly lined eyes flicked around, noticing someone across the floor. Their back was turned, but Andy knew. Could feel it with practically every fibre of their being. "Alice." It was barely a whisper, as if saying the woman's name aloud would cause her to evaporate into the darkness somehow. Boot hesitated before Andy forced another step forward, pushing the other's name past their lips again. "Alice."
