kate figured that the best thing to do was to give clint some space at first. so for the first few days after being back - being out of the stone - kate had more or less avoided him while he was around. knowing how upset and/or frustrated he’d gotten when she and billy had accidentally told him a bit too much about the possible future, she couldn’t blame him. she’d be frustrated too if she were in his place.
it had also taken those few days to build up the courage to see him again. though she probably wouldn’t admit it to him, or even to the clint barton in her timeline, she respected the hell out of the original hawkeye. looked up to him. he had been her childhood hero, after all. seeing someone she cared deeply for who didn’t know her in this timeline because she didn’t exist was hard, to say the least.
walking up the steps to his apartment building, she felt a twinge of sadness. it looked just like the one back home. probably wasn’t much different inside, either. she smiles at the thought of the different tenants in the building - grills, the guy who’s real name she could never actually remembered, who had started the whole ‘hawkguy’ trend. she couldn’t remember the name of the mother with the two kids either, but she recalled her being very nice. she thought of the time they’d all banded together to fight back against the tracksuit mafia ‘bro’s’. the different practice sessions and the millions of times she’d helped him with whatever injury he’d managed to get that day. sighing, she pushes all those thoughts away. for all she knew, none of that had ever happened for him. it was probably best to not dwell on it.
opening the door to the building, she makes her way up to his apartment, hoping that one of the things that had somehow stayed the same between the two timelines was the apartment number he lived in. knocking on the door, she paused for a moment, before she speaks. “hey, clint? it’s kate. kate bishop. hawkeye. uh.. sorry to drop in unannounced and all, but i come bearing coffee and donuts? also dog treats.”
