YHWH Nailgun - Castrato Raw (Fullback)
D’Angelo & The Vanguard - 1,000 Deaths
The last time I had to listen to a record 30 or 40 times before I “got it” was with Drive Like Jehu’s Yank Crime. And I still remember the experience on a sensual, visceral level. I would listen to the whole album once or twice, not really like it and get frustrated and then put it away. But I would find myself compelled to dig it out after a week or two and give it another try. I could feel there was something there. And then, months after buying it at Disc-Go-Round, the veil fell from my ears and I finally understood it in all of its subtle, repititious glory. Same thing with Black Messiah (not repititious, definitely subtle and glorious).
This one gets honorary punk funk status, and counts as fresh too! Close yr eyes and blast it!
タオル - 余白
Google translates the band name as "Towel" and the song name as "Margin"
All the info on their bandcamp page is in Japanese so i can't read it but the only non-genre tag on their page is "minutemen" so they go up here and get mad respect for it.
The Pop Group - Justice
Karate - Rattle The Pipes
I really don’t make it a habit to like Karate albums but their In The Fishtank EP is hands down amazing, and this new record has a wee bit of funkiness, so
The Pop Group - We Are Time (Dennis Bovell Dub Version)
Joe Strummer of The Clash
The Au Pairs - Sex Without Stress
