Ok, day 2 was even harder to crawl out of bed than day 1. Boy did I ever have a laundry list of excuses!! My nose was stuffy, (aaachoo!) I was too tired, cranky, lazy. I wanted to roll over and sleep for 20 more minutes! But, I was wide awake and had no REAL excuse not to get up, get into some active wear, and hit the pavement of my neighborhood. 20 minutes, that’s all I had to do today. That isn’t too horribly daunting, once you get moving. The hard part is getting out the door and starting.
So I ran down the street, saying hello to the dog down the block as he chased me down his fence line, barking all the way, (the dog was barking, I wasn’t). I ran by the local play ground and the coffee shop. The community was alive with the bustling morning routines of my neighbors.
I didn’t look at my timer until minute 6. “Ok, only 4 more minutes till I turn around. No problem.” Keep on going and make the easy turn around at the corner. “That wasn’t so bad,” I thought to myself. And off to run back to my porch, start my usual routine, and head off to work. The last few minutes I started to slow down, I even walked a block. I have decided that is ok with me, as long as I am getting out there and trying, the stamina will build over time.
The 20 minute run worked really well for me. My challenge going forward will be to remember, when that alarm goes off earlier than I am used to, that the running part isn’t the hard part. The hard part is convincing myself to get up, get out, and change my habits.
I am taking the FRB.RUN training kit challenge, make it a habit, and I made it through day 2!
