"I won't fuck up my life so you can find yourself."

WHEN TWO CLOSE companions were both into indie films, things could quickly evolve into a competition unknowingly. Especially between friends, who enjoyed to bicker anyway. Jaelee was someone Sangho considered an other half, the yin to his yang, only in a completely platonic manner. He was very lucky indeed, even if it didn’t seem so, when minor insults spewed between the pair every few moments. But that was just how they were. There was genuine affection thinly laced into their playful banter, which made up for how they acted otherwise. It was something Sangho never wanted to change.
Though he couldn’t stand these moments, when Jaelee was naive enough to think he knew more about film than him.
“I’m a film major, you dummy. What makes you think you could ever defeat me in a quote guessing game?” he chided. Yet his pal egged him on and while he was certainly meeker than most, he wasn’t one to turn down a challenge.
So it began. His first choice already was a toughie, but it was vaguely familiar. Then it hit him like a bolt of lightening. “Laurence Anyways! Xavier Dolan. 2012,” Sangho boasted, puffing out his chest, a smug grin lining his lips. When he was immediately dubbed a show-off, a bout laughter filled the room, resounding throughout the small, dimly lit room of his father’s basement.
“Okay. My turn.” Thumb and forefinger caressed his chin, pointedly to show that he was in deep thought. Millions of lines filtered through his brain, until he found the right one, the perfect one that would spell Jaelee’s doom.
“Come with me, if you want to live.”
A quote from a blockbuster film. Jaelee wasn’t familiar with the art form and neither was he for the most part, but he was weak to certain entries. If anything could do the other in, it would be lines from such films.
