Burning-3
By the time the party came around, Rhys had already talked to Eris. “Things are set in motion, but you have to be careful,” Rhys warned his son, “Her father’s views aren’t as… progressive, as Eris.”
Nyx cringed. That bad. “I’ll be careful. I won’t let her get hurt.”
Rhys put a hand on his son’s shoulder, “This will be the hardest thing you’ll ever do. There will be lot you’ll want to do you can’t. Until she’s out of Autumn’s reach, you have to act like you like her for purely superficial reasons. Remember, you’re the spoiled arrogant son of an arrogant High Lord and his Devious wife.”
“What a cute description of me,” Feyre entered and kissed her mate on the cheek, “you forgot treacherous whore as well.”
Rhys wrapped an arm around her waist, “For you or for me.”
She kissed him, “Both I suppose.”
Nyx shook his head, “I’ll leave you two to flirt and argue about who’s the biggest whore.”
They laughed and kissed his cheeks on either side before he left.
Nyx was a bundle of nerves before the party. He met with Aether and Ereba, Erie introducing her newfound mate, but he couldn’t focus as well as he could have. His mind was Demetria. He hadn’t even spoken to her, and yet here he was, replaying seeing her over and over.
Aether left to get ready, and then it was he and the new mates. “Welcome to being a male mate,” Cadell, Erie’s new mate said, “Apparently the only thing you do is think about her and what she’s doing and if she’s safe.”
Nyx nodded, “I knew it was something like this, but I’m having such a hard time with it. Plus I mean, our parents,” he motioned between himself and Nesta’s daughter, “they’re the poster children for mates-“
“-and power and battling and unity and everything else,” Ereba grumbled.
“Right,” he agreed, “So it’s a little terrifying to think about it myself.”
“Well,” the Hybern male said, “The good news is you have no choice.”
Nyx laughed at that, “Thanks.”
“Children,” Feyre came floating into the room, ever the Shining Star, “It’s time to go and get ready.”
Nyx was basically shaking as he thought of how close he was to Demetria once again.
