Book 3 was my least favorite book; you have three episodes in a row in the middle where Korra’s role is minimal, and i didn’t like where they took her character in the final arc.

Tying into that, Zaheer was the most boring villain, and that really disappointed me.  His character design was weak (at least after he lost the beard and hair) and his performance was p wooden.  After seeing Henry Rollins’s Liar video before, I was really pumped for some Mad Stan crazy anarchist shit, but it just didn’t do it for me.

I thought it was a bad move to kill Hiroshi in the finale.  Asami is a character Bryke just didn’t know what to do with after book 1, and one result from that is a consistent lack of agency on her part.  She made an active and I think brave choice in working to forgive her father in book 4, but she was still riddled with (well founded) doubts.  I really liked that, delving into the complexity of the emotional situation, but i think killing him off took agency away from her.  Like, when someone sacrifices their life for you, it’s almost like you don’t have a choice in forgiving them.  I mean, i like characters dying for their redemption, don’t get me wrong, but i like it when they live for it even better

“i’m NOT. ” though she had been. her hands are stilled, palms pressed to the tweed of her skirt, but she refuses to lift them lest she draws more attention to them. so she fingers at the fabric and she avoids eye contact and she says, “ don’t you have somewhere else to be? ”

“Not for a few hours.”  He lifted his gaze from the subtle outline of her long, shapely legs through her skirt, smile warm and confident at the chance to steal away every fleeting moment with her he could.  “Time for us to catch up, if we can find some place quiet.”  Considering his usual enthusiasm for the cordial atmosphere -glasses clinking in toasts, laughter, friendly chatter- the request was a strong enough signal he had other intentions.

“Of course it’s not,” his response swift and sharp, though the stifling of the empty manor, silent as the grave after the loss of just two.  Though since they still seemed to haunt the place, perhaps they’re less lost than they seem.  “Not everything is under your control, no matter how much you want it.”  In war, the enemy gets a vote; what a shame that her enemy was the man who bore her on his knee when she was a girl.
