This verbascum sprouted in my garden last fall and I decided to leave it. Now it looks like it’s going to send up its flower spike. I love the huge fuzzy leaves of this plant, but I’m wondering if I should have left it where it sprouted. I have read they can become somewhat invasive. Still on the word of the week- hirsute or hairy- this is the Calathea rufibarba or velvet leaf calathea. It is so soft on the underside of the leaves, it's like petting a kitty. 🐈 Its leaf tops are green 💚 and the undersides a burgundy color. Keep it moist💧and as with all calatheas, use unfluorinated water if possible to keep the leaves looking nice. I'm so loving my African violets lately. This one is 'Buckeye Fiesta'. Look at that glowing flower from the fluorescent light it is growing under. Check out the sparkling petals! Buckeye violets are the results of hybridizer Pat Hancock. Her violets are renowned in the violet world and they are all gorgeous. Do you have any African violets?
