I’m literally bouncing so hard on my fluffy unicorn pillow right now that I might actually launch into orbit because the matches are finally happening and my heart is going pitter-patter-pitter-patter like the cutest baby kitten chasing the brightest laser pointer in the whole entire universe!!! I’m coming atcha live from the coziest blanket fort ever, surrounded by fairy lights, my sparkly pink throw blanket, and approximately seventeen different cat plushies (don’t judge, they’re emotional support!!!). I’ve got my man Lew right here with me… well, not literally in the fort (he says it’s too pink and “overwhelmingly cute” in here 😂), but totally in spirit!!! Like, he’s my official stats guy, my eye-rolling coach, and my favorite spirit animal all rolled into one. Muah muah muah, love you babe!!! He’s already rolling his eyes at how excited I am but I know deep down he secretly thinks I’m the cutest little football newbie ever!!!
Eeeeeek I stayed up ALL night (well… till like 9:47pm, which is basically midnight for me okay!!!) googling on my sparkly bedazzled phone, scrolling through endless TikTok and Insta reels, and I think I finally kinda-sorta get football now you guys!!! It’s basically a bunch of super hot boys in the tiniest little shorty-shorts running around chasing one single ball like their lives depend on it, and then when someone scores they all pile on top of each other in the biggest group hug ever?! Like, why is that not the main point of the whole sport?! The hugs are everything!!! 🥹⚽💕
So first things first, huge massive congrats to the hosts – the USA, Canada, AND Mexico!!! Heyyy Tijuana fam, I see you!!! 🇲🇽 But like… let’s be real for two seconds… wouldn’t it be the most romantic, magical, fairy-tale thing ever if the whole entire tournament was just in Paris instead??? I’m talking Eiffel Tower as the official main stadium, players getting little baskets of fresh warm croissants delivered to the pitch between halves, and maybe even a little fashion show at halftime with berets and striped shirts!!! 🇫🇷🥐✨ Football is already a total sausage fest (and to be fair, that’s exactly how I like it 🤭), so why not add some serious romance and je ne sais quoi?! Imagine the boys scoring and then doing little twirls in front of the Eiffel Tower lights… Lew says I’m being silly again but I KNOW it’s an amaze-balls idea because I’m actually really smart for a girl and I have the best ideas when I’m in my blanket fort!!!
Okay okay okay, let’s get into the TEAMS because there are literally so many and they’re all so scrummy and talented and I want to give every single one of them a little head pat!!! My absolute top faves are obviously Brazil because they have that one guy with the super fluffy hair who does the rainbow kicks and makes the ball do the most insane little dances!!! He’s 100% gonna win MVP, I can already feel it in my whiskers!!! Then there’s England – they’re called the Three Little Lions this time (so cute!!! 🦁) and their captain is Harry Styles??? I really hope he sings the national anthem before every single game, maybe even does a little dance break, it would be so iconic!!! Lew keeps telling me it’s actually Harry Kane and that Styles is a singer, but like… can’t we just sub Styles in for one game?! The vibes would be unmatched!!! Also don’t you dare sleep on Argentina because Messi is STILL playing even though he’s like 100 years old now (awww bless his little heart!!!) and he’s gonna score every single goal with that magic left foot of his. I saw a reel where he was doing little flicks and I screamed so loud my neighbor’s cat got scared!!!
The groups are totally wild and chaotic and I love it!!! Group A has… um… the USA Penguins??? Or maybe it’s just the USA team doing some cool penguin celebration? I have no idea to be fair, there’s like way too many teams and my brain is already doing little somersaults trying to keep up. But England are in group… I or L??? Lew says it’s definitely group L and that capitalization matters (OMG brain explosion!!!). What even is the capital of the USA again? Washington… something? (Note to self: I really should have paid more attention in geography class instead of… other things. Crap, don’t forget to delete that part before posting!!!)
Another super genius Meow-Wow idea that I came up with at 9:12pm last night: There should totally be a Group Z for all the wild-card chaotic teams!!! Like North Korea doing actual missile kicks, Australia with real live kangaroos heading the ball, maybe Iceland with their volcano vibes, and Saudi Arabia bringing the desert magic!!! That group would be the most ICONIC thing to ever happen in sports history and I would watch every single second with my kitty-ear headphones on!!!
The knockout stages are gonna be actual insanity – Lew keeps laughing at me whenever I say that but I’m telling you, it’s gonna be dramatic, emotional, and full of the biggest group hugs ever!!! I lit can’t wait to break down each game the same way I broke down that one girl who tried to outshine me at the café the other day. Don’t ask. It was a whole thing.
I’m gonna be live-streaming every single match in my sparkly kitty-ear headphones while eating strawberry Pop-Tarts (with extra sprinkles!!!), sipping on pink lemonade, and yelling “GO GO GO BESTIE!!!” at the TV like my life depends on it!!! Lew’s already promised to explain the offside rule for the millionth time but I still think it’s just when the boys stand too close to each other and the referee gets annoyed, right??? Like personal space, hello???
