Not maintagging this cause I want to test the waters before getting dogpiled but surely I'm not the only person who's vibe on traffic!gempearl is gem trying very, very hard to make pearl worse while also not knowing the pearl that'll come from being worse isn't the pearl she thinks she'll get. Hello. Is this mic on. Gem wants the scary unhinged bloodthirsty scarlet pearl that she's heard so much of while not knowing that scarlet pearl never existed. She never did. Scarlet pearl was the result of other players reactions/memories of pearl while she was being actively ostracized by the rest of the dl cast. It was a title that overshadowed how lonely pearl actually was. Yes she did play into the character near the end but not before everyone else did the heavylifting of convincing themselves she was way more dangerous than she actually was. Gem's looking for a version of pearl that never existed

Scarlet Pearl was a reputation that overshadowed how dl!Pearl acted herself. It was a tool, a vague threat, a reason to ostracize the odd one out in a game of pairs, whether anyone was aware of what they were doing or not

Scarlet Pearl never existed in double life. At least, not until the finale. What existed in double life was someone weird. Someone alone. Why was she alone? No one knows why, but there must be a reason, so she should stay alone

Gem has a reputation that precedes her, just like the Scarlet Pearl

If Pearl could just stop holding back for once, maybe Gem can have a glace at that legendary, almost fantastical version of Pearl. The one that killed with glee. The one that fights with ease. The one leagues above everyone else. The threat.

Gem wants a version of Pearl that matches Gem's own reputation

That version of Pearl doesn't exist, and never will.

The wandering Pearl, the drifter, the one who is too quick to criticize their own lighthouse and too friendly to the other alliances, that's the version of Pearl that exists

Gem and Grian keep poking at her, questioning her loyalty, trying to find the Scarlet Pearl hidden underneath her

Hey hey hey whatever you do don't imagine hornet sitting in her mother's bedchambers in the red memory, back turned to her mother the way she was as a child. Her mother's voice is clear as day to her, but no matter how much she wants to she cannot turn around and catch one last glimpse of her, will not. Cannot turn around and face the fact that she cannot remember her own mother's face, only the fading memory of her mask as she is laid forever to rest. Her own mother sits behind her, questioning if she'll remember her, remember her wish for her after all these years, and hornet cannot bear to turn around and accept the fact that she can only remember a blurry, red silhouette. And the voice fades away and what's left is an empty bedchamber once again.
