Book Launch for Engagement Party Social Practice at MOCA, 2008-2012
This event celebrated Engagement Party: Social Practice at MOCA, 2008–2012, a fully illustrated examination of works created during the run of MOCA’s Engagement Party program. Engagement Party is a residency program that allows artists to utilize the museum and its resources to create new artworks.
The 240-page catalogue was available for $30. The event featured food from the Heirloom Food Truck as well as beer and wine. Speeches were given by those involved in the making of the publication.

CalArts School of Art MFA 2013 Fundraiser
The CalArts MFA class of 2013 held a one-day 100×100 fundraising event. The event featured 100 pieces from 35 graduating students in Art, Photography and Media, and Art and Technology, as well as donated work from recent graduates and undergraduates, all available for $100 each.
This event was first-come, first-served. Everyone who made a contribution received an original work. 100% of proceeds went to support the MFA class of 2013 graduate group show, which will be held in June of 2013.
Radio Break – organized by USC Roski School of Fine Art’s MA Art and Curatorial Practices in the Public Sphere Program – was an exhibition across radio airwaves, presenting twelve auditory artworks in locations throughout Los Angeles conveyed through low-power radio transmissions. The two-week exhibition included live events as well as scheduled broadcasts of the works and roving transmitter stations.
The goal of Radio Break was to connect participants with the ambient sounds of the city, inviting them to tune in to its history, noise, narratives, and music. In addition to presenting audio works from the project, visual elements of mixed-media pieces like Richard T. Walker’s between distance and a mountain, were also presented. Part of this work was an oversized image of a figure grasping at a distant mountain affixed to the front 6020 Wilshire Blvd.
On the final day, an event was held featuring the audio element of between distance and a mountain and Elana Mann’s People’s Microphony Camerata, a piece that explores the financial crisis through the voices of those affected.
As a special culmination of Radio Break, a live performance by David Schafer of his work Cage Mix: Static Age was held, followed by the reception for the entire project. After all of the broadcasts and events, there was a listening station at 6020 Wilshire Blvd. with all twelve projects from April 22nd-27th.
