What are LODs and why you need them???? Do they need morphs????? (talking about last anon question) thank you <3333
LODS = Lower Level of Detail. So like for example when your sims load and they have that boxy blurry look, thats actually LOD2, the lowest level of detail. And if you put your graphic settings on medium or low then your sims switch to LOD1, medium level of detail. Same with objects. So everything in sims has LODs. LODs should have less verts/polys than your main mesh as they are there for people who need to use lower settings so they don’t fry their PC. However when making CC there are like a couple of things most people do:
Clothing: the medium and low LOD is usually just the naked top. Mainly as people rarely play with low sim detail settings.
Hair: all LODs are usually done as hairs are very high poly and the lower LODs are thus used more in game.
Objects: the first two LODs are usually done, if the object is low poly anyway (like up to 2000 poly) then the same mesh is used for LOD0 and LOD1.
Theoretically adding LODs is good for people with not so good PCs, however, it also makes the file size bigger and if the poly is not reduced enough it can actually slow down rendering times. Another reason people often don’t make them for clothes as the naked LOD has the lowest poly and thus is not as heavy to load. I guess it depends on the creator what they want to do!
take that, so what?
