In any exhibition devoted to the relationship between arts and design, the presence of Christian Lacroix is a must. Renowned for his endless ability to reinvent models, combine unexpected elements or materials, and explore a wide variety of historical and cultural references, Lacroix draws inspiration from very different artists and periods in various collections. Van Gogh, Goya, and Velázquez, Picasso or contemporary painting are some of his references. In dialogue with Lacroix’s dress, Alessandro Mendini piece painted in Pointillism technique and Gabriel Abrantes’s video referring to the scandalous Édouard Manet’s painting, Olympia (1863) where he addresses the issue of gender and sexual identity.
