❦ “Alright! Looks like our team’s all settled.” Milo practically beamed at both Nessa and Kabu, visibly excited to be participating with them on these summer games.
“I’ll be sending the form in for us, but I wanted to check up with either of you if you’d like to use one of those nifty pins. I hear they’re actually kind of helpful for the games!”
“We could also come up with a nice name for our team, though the form doesn’t make it a requirement.”
“And here he is, himself, ladies and gentlemen! The man of Flame, himself! The Perkiest of Pyromancers! The Hottest of Hoenn Sauces! The Foxiest of all Grandpas! The Cheeriest of--”
“What is WITH the Levitating Steps today?! I thought I told the staff to ensure all platforms were dried between rounds so as not to give the first teams an advantage… Yet this is the SIXTH TIME IN A ROW someone’s slipped on it! That can’t be a coincidence!”
“Erm… Oleana, take deep breaths, okay? I’ll see to it that the platforms are dry as a Cubone after this, okay? Regardless… Kabu is using his Repeat Ball pin to try to score a better time!”
“... Only to end up falling into the water a SECOND time. Oh boy… This really isn’t looking good…”
Machamp’s Leg Sweep -- 175 seconds
“The dreaded Leg Sweep strikes again… It would be easier to list who DIDN’T lose an inordinate amount of time trying to cross that narrow walkway.”
“How awful! Kabu managed to get over half way through the gauntlet, only to trip when he’d nearly reached the next platform! Now he needs to swim all the way back to the beginning and try again!”
“This is reminding me an awful lot of Nessa’s failed run… I hope he gets it together soon. Time is quickly running out.”
Falinks Hill -- 21 seconds
“WOW! I can hardly believe it -- Kabu managed to scale those rolling spheres more nimbly than men half his age! He even jumped from the top of the hill like Nessa did, though it took him slightly longer to recover!”
“... This is still giving me deja vu…”
Shapeshiftin’ Ditto -- 197 seconds (Eliminated)
“... And there it is. Similar to Nessa, Kabu just couldn’t clear the Charizard cut-out, and went tumbling into the water as well.”
“I can’t believe it... They were just one second off from being tied with Team Morgremlin’s score! Oh, the humanity!”
“We’ll just have to see how well things go with the next two groups. Fingers crossed.”
Piers always struck Kabu as a bit of an oddball, especially since he always refused to Dynamax any of his Pokemon even when he had the chance... And it always had something to do with his pride...? Kabu thought that it was odd not to use all of the tools at one’s disposal, and that there was nothing wrong with Dynamaxing Pokemon. It was a means to an end, and could only be done with Pokemon that had a strong bond with a trainer! If it meant winning, and showing the world just how close you and your Pokemon were... Then why not do it? It didn’t make him think any less of Piers though. As a matter in fact, he was impressed that Piers was where he was without Dynamaxing Pokemon. Speaking of Piers, Kabu saw him in the corner of his eye, sitting by the window in a small cafe... It wouldn’t hurt to say hello.
Kabu opened the door, prompting the small bell to chime, and a Chingling to join on in. He went up to the counter, ordered two teas, then sat down in the chair opposite to the fellow Gym Leader.
