                                      ❛   —— BECAUSE I NEED YOU.  ❜    the edge of her claw left a red trail along his chin, each vein mapped by predatorial eyes ( should more be in need of exposure ). the prior bite had merely been a means of summoning his conscious self, limbs now safely tied and out of harm’s way.   ❛  believe it or not, but your aggression is useful to me when directed at others. the less crowded a hunting ground, the more for me to FEAST ON.  ❜  though fellow foxes weren’t her enemies per se, a city could only host so many of them before someone had to be dismissed. this is where the hounds proved themselves most productive, clearing her path of leeches too weak to survive.

sichan had seen the dog around - first only briefly but when he finally recognised him, si had made sure to feed it. to his great joy and relief, the food was gone when he came to check on it. the day he was finally allowed to interact with the creature and stroke the black fur, sichan’s heart melted. “ what a wonderful and strong dog you are, ” he smiled as a careful hand scratched behind kai’s ear. “ you’ve been eating too, that’s good. if you’re going to stick around I’ll have to buy more dog food. and find a cool nickname for you. ”

An owl fluttering in the foliage above caused him to jump with a shriek, arms flailing until they collided with Kai’s chest; he clung on tight, instinctively, TERROR overwhelming the urge to shrivel up with mortification  ( and boy did he want to sink down to the UNDERWORLD below ).  ❝ Maybe we should… should just wait right here until morning. ❞  Surely that would be the most logical decision?  Dawn was set to break in a few hours, anyways. Swallowing hard, he tried to focus on the sound of his guardian’s heartbeat to block out everything else.  ❝ I’m sorry… this all my fault — I should have been more careful. ❞  One of these days his mistakes were going to cost him EVERYTHING.

It was hard to tell, well not really hard, they hadn't. But the DOG could prove useful in helping him find what he had wanted. "Are you not cold? Why are you sleeping outside?" Crazy, completely crazy. "Look, I need something, you know, what was his name, uh oh yeah. Kimsuro. Well, I need him. Not him exactly, but a ring of his. Somehow it was left here on earth and then some annoying little pest made sure to embed itself in it, and now lives of humans are being destroyyy..." He had started yawning in the middle of the sentence. "And seeing as you sniff at those above's feet and all, you might know something about it. I don't expect you to do it for free. Just think of it, having The Great Sage in your debt is not a bad deal."

         ❝ PRETEND THAT YOU STILL HAVEN’T — PLEASE. ❞  As if by the goddess’ will, no customers had sought their fortune today, allowing her to deal with the TURMOIL that had been building up for weeks, maybe even months, now. Did her distress SUMMON the three-legged hound?  Or was he here for other reasons?  ❝ I must seem so WEAK, ❞  she thought aloud, lithe fingers shaking as they wiped away the tears strolling down her flushed cheeks,  ❝ You’ve come at a bad time. ❞  It was tempting to ask him to go, to LEAVE her there to her misery, but something about his presence soothed her, CALMED the turbulent storm inside — stay, just for a while.

         Scooting over, Eun patted the cushion on her right, signaling for him to sit down; it would be RUDE to keep her guest standing there on his  ( presumably tired )  feet. If Kai-ren wanted an explanation, she would give it to him, though word of her husband’s DEMISE had probably already reached every deity and divine creature alike; it traveled fast, didn’t it?  ❝ —— Even so, what can I do for you?  A READING, perhaps? ❞

               ❛  STAY.  ❜   referring to the looming shadows occupying the alley, the vixen paused as to stand her ground; did the hounds honestly have nothing better to do these days, with the amount of predators terrorizing the streets? aside from the inevitable hairs rising in her neck, DEATH by heaven’s soldier was not something she would easily succumb to. evidently, this game of theirs was starting to get on her nerves, resulting in the cant of her head;   ❛  i’m not hunting tonight, so you’re really wasting your precious time.  ❜  the added ‘precious’ was only a way of speaking about his life as if it would NOT last as long.
