What about Annabeth? //OOC: i havent watched Percy Jackson for a while but I hope this works for you!
opinionated much ?? || accepting
♆ Annabeth ( and Percy’s opinion ) don’t change much between my verses and canon has showed us just how important she is to him. I don’t mess with that because a friendship that strong is incredibly important, especially within Percy’s own character growth. I’m going to preface this by saying I do have an Annabeth I do rp with ( though not currently on tumblr as a platform ) and I am mainly shipping with @/shadowesqxe on this blog.
While Grover may be his best and first real friend Percy knows that Grover only first sought him out as part of his duty. It’s not something he blames Grover for? And it certainly doesn’t change how much Grover means to him, but Annabeth was really the first person who chose him out of her own choice and that really does mean a lot. It’s a part of who he is, and a part of his past most forget, that Percy didn’t have friends before coming to camp. He was pushed to the fringes for a number of reasons ( of which I won’t get into here ) and didn’t expect much out of new places anymore. Yet here is this girl who keeps him alive half the time, someone who he doesn’t know what to think of at first, who keeps sticking around. She quickly becomes someone he is comfortable relying on. He doesn’t second guess himself about her friendship ignoring some of the Thalia thing which is an aspect not to be ignored. Percy has his own canon variety of issues because people suck.
He completely trusts her. Pure and simple. She is his literal anchor to the world in more ways then one ( spoilers for those who haven’t finished the first series ) as she is the one he saw in the Styx. She is the one he took a dive into Tartarus for. These aren’t things you do for someone who you don’t feel is an integral part of yourself. A strong part of me believes they’re at minimum platonic soul mates in that sense. None of my verses or headcanons for Percy change that. Sure, they’re ridiculously co dependent in canon and I know some people hate the ship for that reason but looking at his past and how she helped him grow? Percy without Annabeth’s influence isnt the Percy we know. When someone as important as this is in your life you hold on tight and he certainly did. He doesn’t have many people ( saying this now, will always say it again. the seven aren’t really friends in canon they’re together out of necessity you need to give it time ) as half the time he stays away and the other half people avoid him. Percy isn’t this giant teddy bear everyone loves he’s terrifying and Annabeth is right there next to him every step. She’s his conscious and his voice of reason when he’s blinded by anger or anything else.
He took the sky for this girl. He dove into the labyrinth by her side. Every time he saw Luke throughout the first series after Luke’s betrayal Percy over and over again thinks of how he betrayed Annabeth. Not necessarily himself, but the people important to him. Even as someone he wants to protect, though, he lets her protect herself. He’d not blind to Annabeth’s strength both physically and mentally. Hell, the “strongest demigod” will always readily admit that she bests him. Percy is so proud of her for it, too. This is one of his best friends ( in canon, his girlfriend ) who overcame her demons and walked through literal hell and came out each and every time. It would be so much easier to quote what he, himself, says throughout the books tbh I don’t know how to word half of what I want to say. Just… Annabeth honestly means the world to him.
For Percy, she hung the stars with a challenge him to climb there to.
