The great wizard Somorae Golvoliya is an intergalactic visitor from the farthest reaches of space. Even though he is not native to our planet, he much prefers it here. He loves the people and creatures and various other organisms that live here, and he never wants to leave again. He has lived here for centuries, but no one knows him. Maybe you’ve even seen him before, but he is very good at hiding. Still, he loves to watch people go about their daily lives (not in a weird way), and sometimes even helps them if they are in a tight squeeze. But mostly he keeps to himself, watching from a distance. He has lived all over, but prefers to stick to local parks. He likes to see their lamp-posts light up at night, they remind him of his home planet’s suns. He has always been a bit of a sentimentalist.

I have seen Somorae before, I want to be him.

Somorae, what was your home planet like?

It’s a lot like it is here, just... different. Less precise. It’s like living in a state of half-sleep when compared to here, an unfinished thought. That’s why I like it here better. 

To be honest, that sounds ideal. When I die, I want to go to a place like that. Eternal limbo. Nothing but mistiness and half-formed Gestalt. It would be like living on the edge without the fear of danger, all the stuff I couldn’t bring myself to have in life. Walking, walking, walking through these ever-shifting landscapes sounds like a dream. They must miss you back home, Somorae. Can I take your place?

@bleekay posted a link to that weird free synthetic landscape generator, and i couldn't help mucking around with it for old time's sake, bc I used to play with Bryce 3D fractal rendering back in the 90s which took bloody forever

this is a little more simple and unpredictable, but of course the textures and resolution have progressed, so?

first attempt AS USUAL looks like the ugliest failed MYST island ever just like my first Bryce art

second attempt? not too bad?

which it translated into

playing around with lighting

And then for my third attempt I was amused to find that 25 years later, low-budget algorithmically generated trees (as opposed to ones done with expensive high-end software) are just as bizarre as ever

i kind of made a swoop of road surface and mud on the lefthand side of the slope to give it more interest

and then i realized the mystery box button with the question marks was a randomizer for lighting and got carried away
