Let's Dance: Velvet - Women's Lounge & Dance Night MPLS
When I’m not cooking and eating my way through the cities, I like to take a break to relax and put on my dancing shoes!
If you’re looking for a night out in the twin cities and you consider yourself mature, classy with a touch of sassy you must check out the newest monthly #queerdanceparty at Mattie’s on Main in Mpls. The amazing, beautiful, femmes of #sweetsoirée events & entertainment have introduced a new monthly night out for the sexy sophisticated ladies of Minneapolis & Saint Paul crowd called ‘Velvet’ Women’s Lounge & Dance Party.
As I continue the adventures of my 30’s the images of glitter, vodka red bulls, and dancing in black lit rooms until the early morning hours isn’t as appealing anymore ( well… Maybe every once in a while) Over the years, I’ve noticed that the club scene hasn’t changed much, the days of Pi and Twilight are now memories of the ‘good days’ and there hasn’t been another night/venue to replace it. Granted, there are several amazing monthly ladies nights that happen throughout the city and Velvet’s inaugural event filled a void that was missing.
I was very impressed with the feel and layout of space . As the night went on and the crowd filled the room. V and I got cozy in a corner, talking, laughing and reconnecting amongst a sea of beautiful rainbow hued light. This event was a fabulous couples “compromise, meaning that I’m a little more extrovert than my love so it’s important to find events that we both feel comfortable at & it’s important that I get some dancing in and she gets to sit back and talk by the bar or at a table. We both truly enjoyed the night.
The up and coming DJ duo #butchdandy kept the beats playing all night. Smooth mixes of #oldskool jams with a sprinkle of current hits like #uptownfunk which ALWAYS gets the party started. I should add that the music was super eclectic. Seven & Beck played an array of artists! I was most impressed with a mashup of #letigres #deceptacon which is one of my personal anthems:) at that moment, I realized this dance party was unlike any other I’ve experienced for a very longtime… And trust me, I’ve been in the game for a while:)
I enjoyed the fact that the ladies of Sweet Soiree provided something for everyone. Not only did they offer a mix of tasty cocktails but they also had a delicious mocktail for members of the community who want something more refined to drink then a glass of water. For the record it was delicious! Which Again, added another star on my Checklist of why it was amazing to attend the first night of what I hope will be a longtime queer party!
I highly suggest checking out the next event. Follow on FB to stay up to date with the additional events/parties SweetSoiree throws throughout the year!
I can’t wait for the next one:)
