One fine day in Futurelytics' life - FutureDays & Google Cloud Platform
We are proud to be a trusted partner of Google, and the presentation made us especially happy for showing us live to the world among companies using BigQuery!
We are thrilled by the chance of talking with people who are interested in Futurelytics and our story or are otherwise focused on big data, cloud environment, predictive analytics, marketing and even on creative leadership.
We have hosted two rounds of talks (the afternoon one naturally luring more people than the morning one), and our office was enjoyably crowded by more than thirty people who firstly had a look at our office, enjoyed delicious titbits prepared by BonGusta and then learned about Futurelytics’ journey to success. It all ended up in a very interesting, incentive and more than an hour-long discussion that had to be cut short on account of the scheduled streaming of Urs Hölzle’s presentation about Google Cloud Platform.
The key principles that Google announces are:
Reduce the recurring monthly spend associated with Cloud platforms -- and keep reducing it in line with Moore’s law.
Simplify the approach so that options and add-ons are part of the base Cloud package and developers are not “nickel and dimed” by small add-on features and access to API libraries
Add predictability to Cloud costs so that they don’t get away from enterprise planners and always fall within expected budgets, while also rewarding customers for continuous, predictable use of Cloud resources.
What will this pricing look like for the average customer?
Google Compute Engine standard instance starting at $0.07 per core, falling to $0.049 as usage of that core approaches 100% of a given month.
Google Cloud Storage (standard storage) at $0.026 per GB and $0.02 per GB for DRA. Storage pricing converges for blob, structured and unstructured across all of Cloud Platform at $0.026.
Google App Engine at $0.05 per Compute Unit per Hour, and DataStore reads and writes at $0.06 per each 100K reads/writes.
BigQuery pricing at $5 per TB on demand, or reserved capacity which can be purchased in ~5GB/Sec blocks at $20,000 per month per 5GB/Second throughput.
All in all, it was a very exciting day. Our overall goal was achieved - we have met interesting people that we had a great time with and, among many others, brought up the idea of hosting a Hackathon in Ostrava, Czech Republic, where our development team is based. This may have been our first public event in Ostrava, but most definitely not the last one – there are clearly plenty of opportunities in this area.
