Shitty zoomed in screenshot but in my heart Celestino is trying to figure out how the FUCK Pecco is staying pristine in white on this track day, down to his boots, when even in the earlier daytime photos Celestino looks like this

You have a lot of camera gear 😊. Well I use a Nikon Z50II to take most of my shots. Are you a professional photographer by any chance?

That's a great one! I'm a big fan of the z lineup.

I have been in the past - but wouldn't consider myself one anymore. I don't make money off of it anymore 🤑. I worked for about 4 years as a portrait photographer in a studio. After that I freelanced for a few years doing portraits, weddings, stock photos, etc. So the gear paid for itself and also my other bills.

I traded that kit in for the one I have now. So I've been collecting off/on for about 10 years for this particular set up.

It’s not it’s… I don’t know what to call the fabric. Rough tweed?? More of his recent grandmother/auntie theme.

Also, it has snaps. I will say I do own a button-down with snaps, but anyway. Can’t see the details on his buttons, but god knows. It also appears that the brown edges and stripes are added on top of the base fabric, not part of the weave, which adds kind of clumsy extra bulk on top of bulky fabric— which, unlined, seems to hang okay at least. Maybe the stiffness is helpful?

There is still a part of me that would do it. Actually.

omg rewatched the video where cele forgot his ranch gear and it's the same training day where he's wearing the track helmet, so that explains that situation.

and my italian's not great but in a track day vlog last year he also has some kind of problem with his boots. and when bez and mig ask about his spares, he's only got 2 even more broken right boots in his trunk. (next to an inflateable dinosaur costume?) I think mig offers to lend him his

oh I did learn a bit about leathers vs mx preferences when looking up the other stuff. can't speak for the academy/professional riders but regular people are firmly against wearing leathers/street gear for mx.

leathers are way more expensive. falling is more common when riding dirt and you're inevitably going to get scuffed up. if you've only got one set of leathers it doesn't make sense to mess them up if you can get away with just a long sleeve shirt/jeans for mx.

obviously not a concern for the academy now, but they have all worn mx gear if it's an actual muddy/off road/jumps mx track and not just the ranch dirt flat track. vale in an mx jersey weirdly unsettling.

leathers are hot. as you said, necessary protection on asphalt but mx gear is designed to be breathable. they mostly do mx in winter with vests so maybe heat is less of a concern, but it must still be stiffer and harder to move around in

boots and helmets are different and not interchangeable. they always use mx boots/helmet on dirt.

I agree it must come down to habits, i.e. they're used to wearing leathers for everything else. notably, other than pecco, franky and luca are in mx gear the most. and I think they've said luca is the best at the ranch and franky had the lap record at one point, right?

this has devolved so far from the initial pecco analysis, but I also have some thoughts/info on bez and cele if you're still interested?

I would LOVE any extra Cele and Bez info! I very genuinely find all of this so so interesting! I saw bulletpoints when I opened this and was like Fuck Yeah. And anyway, all background can be in the service of pecco analysis if we try hard and love the game.

Reports from the track days subreddit: someone is saying that wearing the fancy racing rain jackets feels like wearing a diaper. More as the story unfolds. Wait story unfolding: “a lot of racers swear by the MOTO-D undersuit, but I prefer wearing separate top/bottom pieces for bathroom convenience.” Maybe Fabio isn’t that weird about nudity maybe he just prefers bathroom convenience.
