Geek hell. Help wanted
Jan needs some help folks, maybe some of you can help him out. Here's his post... and yes I LOL'd when he first told me about it... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If anyone can hear me I need help. No, not the kind that entails co-habiting with nice people in long white coats nor anything that entails with the standard intorduction of "Hi, my name is Jan and I'm a geek." I need some very specific help on finding an application/solution/method of searching for a specific Chinese phrase within all files contained within a folder and it's subfolders. For example, I want to search my entire My Documents folder for the phrase "Charlie Chaplin". It will then return the filename and location of the file that contains the said phrase. The only difference is, the phrase I'm looking for is "技術支援位址". I've been through a slew of enhanced text editors but none quite do the job.
Google desktop - It searches Chinese characters just fine but cannot index non-standard file extensions. It's only able to index the .doc, .pdf, and .xml types.
Notepad++ - It does support find-in-file functions but cannot support searches in Traditional Chinese (zh_TW).
Textpad - Find in file works! Unfortunately, no zh_TW language support.
UltraEdit - I tried the demo version of UltraEdit. The find-in-file function worked beautifully but it didn't have Traditional Chinese language support either.
If anyone knows a way do leave me a note because in the meantime, I'm opening hundreds of files one by one and searching within that file one by one. The sheer tediousness (?) of the task is akin to being trapped in an isolation chamber with Teletubbies playing on the wall. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LoL good luck bro! ...
