Macroeconomics applied to my faith.
So yesterday I was in class and my teacher was going on with her lecture. I was so tired from the morning workout that I could feel myself dozing off. So I asked God to keep me awake or something along those lines. I don't think I actually even meant it, I was just expressing my frustration. My professor starts talking about opportunity costs, for what ever reason I really start to pay attention, despite the fact I already knew this concept. She explained opportunity costs as the things you sacrifice to produce a product. Whether that be time, money, or resources. She also reminded us that nothing in this world is free it all has a cost; tangible and intangible. Then it all clicked:
She's right nothing is free. I always say I want to be closer to God, but what have I actually done to work towards that. If you want a relationship with God you have to give up you. What this means is in order to gain heavenly things you need to give up those those things which distract you from God. It's like a trade off more Him and for less of me. For example one way to get closer to God is spending time in His word. However, many of us always use the excuse that we're to busy, but are we really? There are definitely somethings you could give up to make time for Him. Such as instead of going and spending long hours at a friends house doing nothing, why not stay at home and read your bible. Or even do a bible study with said friend. Cut down on how many hours you allow yourself to be on the Internet or watch TV.
Now, I'm not saying that this is easy or that it will happen over night. However, if you take the first few steps the Lord will draw you near. All you have to do is try, if you mess up its okay God is forgiving. I believe that what He desires from us most is an valiant effort when seeking Him.
Okay that's it. Definitely not how long I intended for this to be, sorry. But hope its helpful to at least one of you.
