“every definition of pan is biphobic” oh pleaseeee. I know there are some out there who define their pansexuality in ways that come across as biphobic but a GOOOOD majority of those people are using the wrong definition because they don’t know any better and are exploring pan. how do people expect them to find a correct definition that fits them personally, that’s right and inclusive, when they just deem them and pan as a whole as biphobic for being misinformed and new to the identity???
like, i know pan biphobes most likely exist just like bi panphobes exist. and i’m not gonna say they don’t or make excuses for them. but a lot of people seem to forget that ANYONE who is new to an identity might use outdated definitions. maybe sometimes it does fit them personally (maybe someone truly feels “genderblind” for example) and use that to describe THEM SELF to others. that doesn’t make the whole of pan biphobic or every pan person a biphobe. one persons own id isn’t all of us.
tbh anyone who thinks every definition of pan is biphobic probably just thinks pan itself is biphobic. but yeah, dismissing genuinely misinformed people as bigots, especially if they’re new to an identity or their queerness in general, is kind of shitty. as is using them to dismiss an identity as a whole.
honestly, based on my experience, a lot of biphobia from pan people seems to be genuine ignorance about what the terms mean, whereas a lot of panphobia from bi people seems to be genuine hatred for the identity/us....i mean......”battleaxe bis” anyone? yet only one is treated as a threat, and it’s not the group who weaponized a term and created a symbol for their hatred. and before anyone tries to come for me, note that i said “based on my experience”, “a lot” not “all”, and “seems to be” not “is” and that i’m not saying unintentional queerphobia isn’t bad or harmful, it’s just....an interesting difference, as well as the reception of each.
