Y’all I’m telling you, if you haven’t watched Gentefied, you need to
i’ve been watching gentified and it’s such a good show
Nice piece by one of my great graduate students (Ralph Villanueva) on #Gentified 's cancellation, #mextasytv, #mextasy, and more ... https://www.latinxspaces.com/latinx-film/erasure-of-latinx-media-and-our-stories or hit my linktree biolink here @william.nericcio https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca-lHdNPvC1/?utm_medium=tumblr

I like Shitts Creek and I get that it is very popular, but it seems so over rated. Mean while shows like On my Block and Gentified are being completely slept on. Heck, I don't remeber which award show it was, but the Politician was nominated one year, I really don't think it deserved it. I just want Brown talent to be recognized as well.
a mood.
But seriously I must get around to picking up these shows! also anyone who makes gifs should try watching these shows to get them more publicity! the poitician only looked interesting to me because it had a queer lead tbh.

i started watching hollywood, a series about 1950s hollywood, directly after watching gentified, a series about a minority community in los angeles. and when i first started watching it i didn’t like any of the characters???? at all???everyone basically seemed like they could be an antagonist in gentified?? and also hollywood gentrifying everything is half the reason LA is so bad for poor people today tbh.
but yeah then like halfway through i started liking some of the characters, the movie meg seemed like it could be a great thing, they were standing up against hatred and promoting diversity and i was so on board.... and then??? the ending happened. the movie was a hit.
all the problems they were worried about disappeared, the hate disappeared, the kkk wasn’t a problem anymore, they won basically all the oscars, gay rights are magically pushed forward like three decades... and it basically sends the message of “these problems weren’t as big as the protagonists thought they were.”
which is bad, because it basically agrees with everyone who’s ever said “minorities used to be oppressed but they aren’t anymore” in a tv show that was set in a time where the civil rights era hadn’t even happened yet.
hollywood is a series about a movie that breaks barriers in a picturesque “meg defeats the ceo of racism” sort of scenario, but gentified shows what barriers still exist today in the real world and how people are breaking them day by day and the actual experiences people actually have and i think watching those two back to back really made me realize how flawed the message of the series hollywood really is tbh.
