Thanks to ALL subscribers of Just Donkeys, who love and have found a place in their hearts for this endearing equine.
Thanks to those of you who reblogged Gentle Jack to encourage donkey awareness and welfare on behalf of this most loyal, amiable, loving and gentle being, who at the same time is hardest worked domesticated animal in the world.
Sadly, as a corollary donkeys also suffer the most of all domestic animals unimaginable abuse, both through ignorance and wilful intent at the hands of humans; (humans-- the only animal on earth who deliberately harm other beings) and painful demises to satisfy the want of hide and flesh for China’s sick, insatiable demand for Ejiao, (donkey hide gelatine or glue for Traditional Medicine quackery) that even its own vast lands cannot meet.
As a result, sickeningly, donkeys are being poached from Africa, Egypt, the Middle East and in some cases even Europe. The indigenous African wild asses/donkeys are now endangered species being illegally slaughtered. To add to this insult domestic donkeys are also being rustled by poachers and criminals alike for the love of money. Slaughtered in the dead of night while indigenous tribespeople who value and care for their faithful family member donkeys, whose livelihoods rely on their donkeys, sleep. They wake up to a living nightmare. In all cases, China is indifferent to exploitation and abuse of animals and peoples from afar.
We need to support campaigns to prevent this. The Donkey Sanctuary has already petitioned but needs your support.
On behalf of all needy donkeys who suffer cruelty and neglect worldwide (sadly, even in the “civilised” West), thank you for supporting donkey sanctuaries.
