My advice (from interviewing people myself) is to memorize a couple of really good soundbite lines and find some way to work them in. It’s easy for the journalist to sum up your meaning if you’ve already done it for them!

Oh good! That's what I do before panels and public speaking things so I'll just keep doing that. Thank you for reminding me that this tactic applies to other mediums.
