My account has gotten some surprise attention so I suppose I ought to have a pinned introduction:
• From, by, and of the United States.
• A resident and lover of the American West.
• A high church Protestant Christian, baptized into the Episcopal Church, although I deeply admire different expressions of the faith and often flirt with directly apostolic Christianity.
• A college student studying politics and social thought.
• Passionate about learning and discussion.
• A fluent speaker and lover of the English language as well as a typically failing student of other tongues, Spanish premier among them.
• A registered Republican but a stolid critic of much of the MAGA movement and its ridiculous cult of personality around Donald J. Trump, which has turned away from families and care and towards vitriol and isolation.
• A reader and lover of literature of all sorts and an experimenter in the written word myself.
• In ordered liberty as understood by figures such as Tocqueville.
• In the protection of human life, industry, the family, and our environment.
• In human rights for all and compassion as the rule of the land.
• In markets tempered by justice and the importance of wide property ownership such as was understood by classical republican thinkers such as James Harrington and in the physiocratic thought of Henry George.
• In a moral role of leadership for the United States to play in the world.
• In the Nicene Creed and scriptures.
• In liberty and union, now and forever, one and inseparable.
• That our republic was culturally founded by Plymouth and politically most earnestly founded in liberty in accord with its conception that all men are created equal by the brave heroes of the 1860s and the Union’s cause.
• That democracy depends on a culture of virtue, civil society, and pluralism.
• My Lord, the triune God whose person the Son took flesh and suffered as Christ.
• My girlfriend, the most amazing and beautiful lady in the world.
• My nation, the sentinel of liberty the world over.
