When I first arrived here in Houston, I was immediately drawn to Downtown with its impressive skyline and odd-shaped skyscrapers. Back then (some 5 years ago!) the JP Morgan Chase Tower (tallest building in TX to date!) observation deck was still open. It was fascinating to me to be able to see firsthand the buildings I had been reading about for a while: Pennzoil Plc; the (then) Bank of America Tower (now TC Energy Center); Wells Fargo Plaza, One Shell Plaza and of course The JP Morgan Chase Tower itself, where I was observing from! The vast majority of them had one element in common, and it was Gerald D. Hines. Today, I’m posting some of my shots of these buildings, along with other Hines buildings in NYC, both in honor of Mr. Hines (RIP) and #nationalskyscraperday 👁 . . . Photo No. 10 is my *favorite skyscraper* outside H-Town, an absolute stunner by the name of @53w53 by @ateliersjeannouvel with those X-shaped trusses and amazing crystal apex atop that I can’t seem to overcome 😍 . . . #skyscraper #building #dthtx @downtownhouston #geralddhines #bankofamericatower #pennzoilplc #wellsfargoplaza #oneshellplaza #jpmorganchasetower #phlipjohnson #johnburgee #impei #architecture #cre #thisishouston #manhattanskyscrapers #trusses #apex #facade (at United States) https://www.instagram.com/p/CErlniZJp4E/?igshid=vrboxkz5pabx
Gerald D. Hines represented many of the things I love about this country, along with the Real Estate industry: technical proficiency; unbridled ambition; commitment to excellence; commanding the numbers and graciousness, too. “No one loved mechanical systems like Gerald D. Hines,” I read in his bio. It is lovely to believe that! I first learned about Mr. Hines through Poorvu’s “The Real Estate Game” (highly recommended read for any Real Estate enthusiast!), and then slowly began to assimilate his grandeur and peerless status in commercial real estate in Houston, the US, and around the globe. I would feel safe to say that very few individuals have impacted an industry at his level, touched so many lives through their work, and left such legacy behind. Plus, if true, I love the fact that he *only* wore Brooks Brothers (my fav!) and *only* recruited from top schools (to my chagrin!). So, for whatever it’s worth, Mr. Hines inspires me every single day in my pursuit of excellence in the understanding, commercialization and love of Real Estate in its various forms, and in business in general. Last but not least, I managed to procure a slide rule from my father-in-law (true story!), but I’ve yet to learn how to use it, haha 🦉 . . . I’ve downloaded a few images of Mr. Hines from the @hines website Media Kit for this post, which I’ve published along with a few of my own captures of some of his work, including IM Pei’s JP Morgan Chase building, Texas’ highest building, and testament to Mr. Hines’ “creation” of public art (through Miro’s sculpture, which has a great story on its own), as well as one of his earlier buildings along Richmond Ave., where I had the pleasure to work! . . . #geralddhines #icon #developer #cre #architecture #houston #dthtx #publicart #impei #philippjohnson #johnburgee @skidmoreowingsmerrill @pcparch @officialnormanfoster @ramsarchitects @frankgehry @pickardchilton @ateliersjeannouvel @salesforcetower #urbanism @universityofhouston @brooksbrothers #realestatedevelopment #rip (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEbvULlJ7Hc/?igshid=tuver844ir4g
