I prepared a silly little christmas card for my family this year.
Loriot's "Weihnachten bei den Hoppenstedts" ("Christmas with the Hoppenstedts") is a German comedy cult classic, they literally play this episode each and every year on christmas and every German person seems to know it. The skit follows the family Hoppenstedt, who try their best to have a somehow peaceful christmas, together with the slightly crazy grandpa (played by Loriot himself). It's actually pretty difficult to explain this to people, who've never seen it, now that i think about it... But yeah... the thing in the front of this piece is a nuclear power plant model, Dickie (the kid) gets as a christmas present and it is literally the funniest shit ever.
My bff got me this Black Jack DVD, it's primarily in German and from the 90's anime. In the Extra's it has are a PC screensaver (which is just a slideshow with music with scene's of the two episodes) , original sketches of the characters and scenes and a few Infos of Osama Tezuka and black Jack.
It has the episodes "Tale of a snowy night: Lovelorn Princess" and "the owl of San Merdia) it's all in German, but with the option of original Japanese synchro and with Ger Subtitles
Yet another small example of the German media landscape and how it handles Rammstein... just to show what happens in the outside world while we discuss how to interpret Richard's latest statements.
By now, the interview with Richard is slowly making its way through the German-speaking news portals – Berliner Zeitung, Berliner Kurier, and Bild have reported on it, and now so has the news site T-Online.
While Berliner Zeitung called his remarks on guitar equipment “nerdy” but otherwise stayed factual, T-Online (which is oftentimes used by Germans as a casual source information, so a lot of people will come across this article) described his by-now well-known house metaphor as “strange”, took the opportunity to bring up the 2023 scandal with a whole paragraph without clearly explaining why the case was dropped (even though the article in itself had nothing to do with it), and used the wrong photo – namely, Daniel from the Rammstein coverband Feuerengel, who was standing in for Paul:
Always a pleasure to read German articles about topics concerning Rammstein.
What should we do with Bernhard Blocksberg (Bibi Blocksberg)?

Questions for Germany 🇩🇪 part 1
Why do German voice actors sound like that?
A large part of the German VA industry is the production of dubs for non-German shows, movies, video games. Dubs are still the norm, and while this bothers me, it’s obvious why it would be difficult to change. Generations have now grown used to watching media without subtitles, so a pivot away from that standard is not easily achievable.
Now here’s what I find mystifying as well as infuriating. There is a certain, surprisingly common style of voice acting that I encounter on TV here that almost sounds a caricature of what I imagine actors would usually sound like when they’re acting on screen themselves. A certain, inexplicably exaggerated type of speech which to me makes the gulf between the original media and the German TV version even wider.
So the question is: uuuh, wtf?
I’ve seen German stand ups and content creators make fun of this, so it’s not just me. However, I can’t seem to find anyone who can actually explain WHY this is the way it is. Not even the experienced TV/media people I met in Cologne. I figured they would know. They didn’t, but at least they were able to deliver some incredible impressions, which was pretty great too.
If anyone has facts or even just theories on this topic, please drop them here.
