According to the caption, the things inside the iron cross are the “evil eye.” Thanks for clearing that up, because I seriously had no clue. 

I am also 100% sure this was done by an amateur at home.

Most of the "yay my heritage" type tattoos I found were German/Irish or German/American. This one combines all three in an inexplicable winged stone cross. Because why pick one design when you can combine several?

Gearing up for the World Cup finals, I decided to dig up some German tattoos. So this weekend, join me for some embarrassment from der Vaterland. (My father land. Because I'm running this show.)

If you google "german tattoos" you'll find a ton of eagle crest tattoos, all from the same template. Surprisingly, most of the street shop stuff is actually tolerable, compared to so much of the shit you find stateside. 

For the tattoo on the left, the artist did a decent job tracing the design, but the shading is pretty patchy. On the right, a beautiful, re-drawn rendition that gives the wing and filigree details enough room to breathe. A little sprinkle o' custom work goes a long way!
