FANTASTIC song of the day pick by Bryan Steenerson of Murzik.
According to Bryan, "This is a song by Vladimir Vysotsky, who was a famous Russian singer/poet/actor who died in 1980 at the young age of 42. Many of his songs were very political and were banned by the Communist state, therefore many of the songs you hear today were recorded at underground house concerts and copied and passed throughout the former USSR. His music has been a big influence on our style of music, and if you can understand his lyrics, you realize the genius and beauty of his music."
A truly amazing song with a great history. There's always something about knowing a song or musician's roots to truly understand and respect the music.
Thank you so much Bryan for sharing this wonderfully beautiful piece.
Song of the day is "Capricious Horses" by Vladimir Vysotsky.
And hey. If you dig this sort of thing, make sure you check out Bryan's band, Murzik. Maybe it's my German-Russian background. Or perhaps it's my love of perogies and borscht. All I know is that they are hands down one of the best, most interesting bands roaming the Twin Cities right now. If you haven't seen them live, you're missing out on one of the gems of our city.
