Tips to host an awesome birthday for your little one
Planning a birthday for your little one can be extremely stressful and tiring. You need to get a cake, cook good food for all ages, you need to put up decorations, plan fun games and be a gracious host at the same time. Yes, planning everything while looking after your child can be exhausting!
But we can help you with a checklist of things which can make the day a memorable one. After all, you need to have fun as well with others as it’s a day you have been waiting for.
Decide on a theme and a budget
Before you start planning and purchasing things, decide on how much you can afford to spend for a birthday party. How much would you have to spend on food? What about the decorations? Are you interested in getting an entertainer? Are you planning to splurge on the location or would you be better off celebrating at home? How much are you willing to spend on return gifts? These are the questions you need to ask yourself while deciding the budget.
After this, you can set a theme based your child’s favorite superheroes, toys, or interests. For instance, if your child loves playing with action figures, celebrate a superhero-themed party! You will also be able to plan all the fun activities around the theme.
Keep the guest list short
Along with sending an online invite, personalize the event by handing out handmade invitations. Restrict the guest list to close relatives and friends if your child is below 5 or 6 years. Too many strangers around can overwhelm your child and hosting a party for too many people can be a daunting task for you as well!
In fact, plan the birthday around a time which does not interfere with the nap time of the other kids.
If your child is above the age of five, involve him/her while up the guest list! Do they want their friends to be at the party or the entire class? But of course, just because your child does not like a classmate, that does not mean that you don’t invite him/her.
Don’t forget to entertain!
You need a line-up of amazing games to make sure that everyone is having fun! Plan 2-3 hours of great games so that no one forgets your child’s birthday very soon.
While the must-haves on the list are definitely musical chairs, themed versions of tag and pinatas, you can also make great games on your own. Along with this, it would be great to hire an entertainer as well.
Now you don’t need to splurge here as kids don’t really care for very elaborate decorations; but yes, get them cool party hats and a lot of balloons!
You can also print out images of the birthday boy/girl and stick them on the decorations. Use a lot of streamers to decorate the house, This will make your house look party-ready in no time!
Keep it simple! Remember that kids will be out there, having a fun time. Cook something which the kids can gorge on while playing games, but can be prepared quickly as well. This calls for rolls, french fries, mini pizzas, mini sandwiches, and mini burgers!
You can have junk food around too, but try to have healthier options available as well. Also, when you send an invite, remember to ask the parents whether their kids have any food allergies.
When it comes to the birthday cake, bake it according to the birthday boy/girl’s favorite shape and flavor! Bake the layers and freeze them and ice it on the night before the party. And yes, don’t forget candles!
After the party ends, have the birthday boy/girl hand out sweet thank-you notes to those who came to make the day more special! You can actually get a party bag for each and every one of them which might contain personalized and unique return gifts, notes and chocolates.
Along with all this, keep a first aid kit nearby at all times. Child-proof your home and keep sharp objects and breakable items away from every child’s reach.
Take as many photos as you can of the event. Instead of stressing about everything, ensure that your child is having the time of his/her life with friends!
And yes, a happy birthday from us as well. Best of luck!
