it isn’t often that he finds himself alone with georgie. usually, it’s him, her and the redd twins hanging out all together. maxxie doesn’t feel like he’s all that great of company one on one and yet, she hasn’t seemed to mind. not yet, anyways. he’s laid out on her bed, a book propped open in front of him but he’s been more or less idly flipping pages. the good thing is, he’ll remember what they say anyways, should he need to recall them. he’d much rather pay attention to her now. “do you think anyone noticed i wasn’t at the new year’s eve ball thing?” he inquires with a tip of his head. “my parents are having some sort of charity dinner and i’m thinking about skipping. you should help me come up with an excuse.” social functions aren’t maxxie’s forte. nothing with the word social in it was, actually.

WHOEVER CLAIMED THAT money could not buy happiness was not entirely wrong --- but they were not entirely right either. it took more than pretty little things to feel content and fulfilled, but the dresses that she was about to buy definitely made her feel better. catriona just tried a stunning red dress when she made eye contact with a somewhat familiar blonde and she gave her a light smile. georgina van buren. a name that was plastered all over gossip girl right now. ❛ hey. ❜ she greeted, just to be polite, but cat couldn’t help herself. she had to add something else. ❛ i hear congratulations are in order. genevieve is pregnant and you and cas are dating?  ❜ a lot of things happened in her absence ; it was insane, but she was relieved that her family seemed to be off the radar. ❛ i have to say i didn’t see it coming, but... i think it’s wonderful. ❜

IT WAS ODD HOW popular people could get with the smallest of things these days. instagram models made hundreds of dollars with a picture of their god damn food, not to mention how many teenagers they influenced with any picture they posted. the entire thing seemed so absurd to him that he rarely ever used social media --- but even julian recognized the blonde when he spotted her at a party. ❛ georgina van buren. ❜ he spoke the name in complete amusement while his lips curled into a smirk. ❛ so you are real. i was starting to think that you are some evil invention that was created to make my job harder. ❜ so many girls longed to be like her, so many boys longed to be with her. the drama didn’t even seem to stop in their college years, at least not entirely. ❛ having a good time? ❜

     it’s still kind of strange, being able to say he’s friends with georgina van buren. when they’re alone—as they usually are, thanks to emery’s aversion to going out—it’s easier to forget who she is and think only about what she means to him as a friend and someone he trusts. in an atmosphere such as this, however, surrounded by people who remind emery of his days in high school, that feeling of vague surreality is amplified. he’s a little more timid with her than he is in a private setting, where he’s become comfortable enough with her presence to truly shed his anxious exterior for hours at a time. the alcohol helps, of course. “it’s lucky champagne tastes so good,” he contemplates aloud, back pressed to a wall and only semiconscious of the fact that he’s positioned himself so that gigi is between him and everyone else. bitten fingernails tap out an offbeat rhythm against a glass flute filled a quarter of the way with the effervescent liquid in question. “maybe if i had, like, four glasses of it every morning for breakfast i could go out more often without having a panic attack!”

     the stunning pale lavender suit marley had helped him pick out for the new year’s party is by far the most daring thing emery’s ever worn--or going to wear, rather. he’s had it hanging on the front of his closet since they’d bought it last week and occasionally he’ll glance over at it while he’s lying in bed, reading or transcribing music, and his heart will flutter with nerves. good nerves, though. he’s anxious ( as he tends to be about parties ) but he’s excited, too. he’s only recently begun to start exploring the side of himself that prefers softer, more feminine looks than anything his dad would have allowed, and the suit is a big step in that direction. he’s bubbling with enthusiasm over getting to show gigi and when she comes over that afternoon, emery drags her into his room by the hand before she can even take her shoes off. “isn’t she beautiful?” he coos, skimming the tips of delicate fingers down the length of one sleeve. “marls helped me pick it out. you don’t think it’s too much, do you?”
