a mechanic that I wish would have been in bg3
if you're playing a sorcerer, you should have been able to expend a spell slot to "feed" gale's orb. a first level slot for the initial ask, a second level slot for the next, etc. let him draw from the innate weave running through your body
yes I know magical items are plentiful but look. the intimacy
there are a lot of reasons, both valid and not-so-valid, that I think a lot of people hate the emperor
but I swear that chief among them is the fact that the emperor does not treat the player character like they're special, or even particularly intelligent or interesting
basically it's not afraid to call you a dumb fuck to your face. and I love that
I've talked a little before about how stelmane's story made me assess my biases and thoughts regarding male characters, specifically the emperor, and consider why I was much more inclined to immediately trust it over her
but shadowheart absolutely occupies that space for me as well
on my first run of bg3, shadowheart annoyed the hell out of me. she wanted me to try to pry information out of her, she was cagey and avoidant, and then she straight up tried to murder/backstab lae'zel in the night
boy it sure would be fucked up if any of the other companions did something like that, right
I've never understood why people can't get the Balduran/Emperor thing
To me, it's no different than my transition. I have all of her memories, her experiences, the things she loved and valued... but I am not her. And I will never be her again, even if I wanted to be
y'all ever think about how it must feel to experience a thunderstorm after having loved, and then slain, your partner who was the living embodiment of sea and lightning
thinkin a lot about how mind flayers most likely have a base biological need to thrall people/creatures
which can obviously be overcome (see: the number of rogue illithids who do not have thralls), but I think there's a degree of innate dissatisfaction/lack of fulfillment that would be present in most, if not all, that don't
specifically regarding the Emperor, I think a lot about how it recalls its time with Stelmane in the Shield, when it states that its needs were met and it was happy
The Emperor is pretty transparent about perceiving itself as NOT being like other mind flayers, but I think it's interesting that it's clearly still self aware of what fulfills it and brings it joy. On the other hand, if it had no reason to the lie, and if you asked it if Stelmane was its thrall, I'd be surprised if it could give a straight answer
unpopular/underrated character that you actually like and why more people should like them (can't be the emperor or stelmane)

real talk, I think I would have gone with Z'rell. Love them or hate them, pretty much everyone has an opinion on the Emperor (and Stelmane, by extension). but z'rell? not so much!
what's her deal? why is she so faithful to ketheric, how did she get tied up with the absolute? who was she outside of all this?
in my dream version of bg3, if you kill/don't recruit minthara, z'rell becomes the Act II Mean Woman companion. That you could either continue to side with the absolute before she learns that it's all a lie, or you can convince her from the getgo that she's being jerked around, and it would be better to join your side. Either way, she turns her devotion to your cause (and possibly also you) and joins you for the remainder of the game
also god forbid having a companion that isn't a fucking elf
