Egon's knuckles were locked painfully into place, his fingertips completely white with the pressure he put on them, digging into your hips as he held you still. Your body was still trying to rock, slowly and subtly, desperate to feel his cock pushing against your walls as you rode him. But, as he was want to do, he felt the need to make sure he understood on his own terms why you had requested he didn't wear a condom.
"I just want to clarify. It would be irresponsible of me to continue without ensuring that our goals were aligned for an agreeable outcome."
"OK. I want you to breed me. Yeah?"
This felt like a far more intimate request than he had expected.
"Are you… particularly fertile right now? Is this a good time in your cycle? Should we increase or decrease the temperature for-"
You waved his questions away with a swift gesture, silencing him, his eyes focused behind his slightly fogged glasses.
"No, no. I don't actually… Well, it wouldn't be the worst thing to be carrying the next generation of little geniuses… But it's more the fact that I want you inside of me. Deep. Nothing between us. I want the risk. I want the excitement. I want to be able to feel your cum. Yeah?"
He was on board with whatever you wanted, but this definitely intrigued him a bit more than the prospect of making such a huge step on a whim. He nodded fervently, loose curls falling out of place, a lopsided grin that made him look adorably dumb.
"Good. Breed me, Egon. Deep and good. I bet you could get it done with just one. Big. Load. So don't pull out, ok?"
Egon's cock twitched as he responded.
"I doubt I have enough time to do that now, even if I wanted to."
Hello!! So I was just thinking in my room sleep deprived and looking at my ghostbusters poster until I came up with smth to request! T_T
Could we get a Egon Spengler x Fem!Reader scenario where they're both married and yknow, SOMETIMES reader comes along because they're forced to basically be there to monitor Egon and force them to sleep. Anyways, there's this one time where they get an alert but first time they go without reader nothing happens because the ghost is more attracted to women....SPECIFICALLY seductive/helpless women (eugh) and so Peter thinks "Hey let's bring reader" they agree except Egon (argument in car blah blah blah). LONG REQUEST SCENARIO SHORT. Everyone splits up. Egon is about to get attacked until the reader comes in and distracts the ghost. Meanwhile the reader flirts (acting) to the ghost. Egon can't help but be a little jealous by the way how they're talking to it. Make it anything you want! Jealous Egon sahakirh krhskqowjq okay thanks!
AHHH thank you sm for being my first ask!! you get this trophy🏆 (i legit jumped around all giddy after seeing this in my inbox) this turned out a lil longer than i expected (lol) but i wanted to do your request justice! hope you enjoy what i came up with<3

“No.”
“Come on, she’s the perfect candidate, Spengler.”
“It’s not happening, Venkman.”
“What’s not happening?”
You stand in the doorway of the kitchen at Ghostbusters HQ, voice carrying as you begin to take off your coat. All eyes turn to you.
It wasn’t out of the ordinary for you to be walking around the firehouse. Afterall, the whole team knew you were Egon’s wife, caring and devoted, and seemingly the only one able to make him smile over something other than proton valences. But it just so happened that your impeccable timing led you into interrupting an argument over their last (attempted) bust.
Initially, the job was supposed to be easy. A level III free-floating apparition at a hotel in central Manhattan. Nothing too difficult. But when the team approached the spirit’s location as it had come up on the PKE, it was nowhere to be seen. That didn’t stop the pest from attacking them with flying dishes and candelabras though…
Unable to land a hit on the ghoul, Egon and Ray hit the books and quickly discovered they were dealing with something closer to that of a succubus or incubus. All the sightings of the spirit were documented by female guests at the hotel…and that led Venkman to, what he thought was, the perfect plan.
“That’s why you’d be the perfect option to help,” Venkman says with a smile and a hand on his hip. Egon looks just about ready to strangle him.
“Peter, I already said–”
“Okay,” your voice stops Egon’s protest and focus lands on you again. “If it’d be helpful, I have no problem tagging along. Not like it’s the first call I’ve been on with you all.”
With a mention of your name, Egon moves over to your side, a hand falling to your waist in the way only he’s allowed to hold you, “I don’t know if this is the…smartest idea.”
“Doesn’t sound like you all have many other options,” you reply back with a small quirk of your brow.
He loves when you do that, challenge his opinions, keep him on his toes, but not right now. Not when he’s wanting to keep you safe— to keep his own sanity.
Ray joins the conversation, hoping to sway the vote, “Spengs, she does make a fair point…” Winston just watches, waiting for some decision to be made either way.
After a little more grumbling and groaning, you all load up into the Ecto-1, gear in place and ready to go.
— ★ —
The drive over is fairly silent. Peter and Winston are seated in front, bickering over Venkman’s ability to drive. Ray’s sitting a row away, tinkering with some device. And that leaves you and Egon, side by side in the back.
He’s quieter than usual, not that it’s entirely odd. Even the slight scowl on his face is fairly normal Egon behavior.
But this feels different.
After a long moment, you smile over to him. He sighs and tries to give a small smirk back. It doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Hey,” you say softly and push his hair back behind his ear. You know he loves it when you hold his face. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong…” He grumbles quietly back. You know better.
“Egon, really.” You continue to prod, “You can tell me if something’s bothering you. Communication’s–”
“Important. I know,” he sighs softly.
You’ve had this conversation at length, and he never means to trouble you like this with his difficulty finding the words, of being open and honest. Really he doesn’t. Eventually, he lets up, the words (of course) blunt.
“I just don’t like the idea of you coming on this call.”
The feeling that settles in your gut at the words isn’t entirely unfamiliar. After he’s the brilliant scientist turned ghost hunter, and you’re just the one making sure he gets enough sleep so he doesn’t keel over one day. You keep your voice steady and your feelings in check.
“Why not?”
“It’s not exactly safe.”
“I know that.”
Egon huffs softly, “I just mean…”
“I know what you mean.”
The words come out a bit harsher than you intend them to, but before he can get another word in, the vehicle comes to a stop.
— ★ —
By the time you all split up to search the building, Egon’s head is reeling.
Emotions aren’t his forte. He can analyze variables all day long but it’s not exactly the same with facial expressions and verbal responses.
While he’s not exactly the best at interpreting emotions, he can tell when you’re upset. Like the time he ‘borrowed’ your walkman to fix a wire on the spectral analyzer. It took him a whole two weeks and a trip to radioshack to get back on your good side.
“I know what you mean.” You had said it in B flat. He has your speaking mannerisms down to a science for sure.
Clearly, you’re upset, but this is different somehow. And he hasn’t exactly figured out why.
Egon walks through the halls of the hotel and dips into the kitchen. The space is cleared out, it now being a late hour of the evening. PKE meter in hand and outstretched, he hopes to find the ghoul before it finds you. Despite the recent squabble, he would never want something happening to you.
All of a sudden, a large crash sounds behind him. He jumps, turning and looking around for the source of the sound at least. His eyes go wide when he sees it: a whole set of sharpened knives free floating and pointed directly at him.
“Oh god…” He says softly, not knowing much else to do. He braces for impact, arms pulled up close to his face, when–
“Hey!”
The knives clatter to the floor almost a second later.
When Egon finally gets the braves to pull his hands from his eyes, he sees you…standing right across from the spirit.
The ghost, finally visible, is a full body apparition, appearing male, dressed in some type of tattered suit. He seems suave yet still dangerous and dated, like something out of a 20s mobster film. He seems to be staring back at you, almost as entranced as Egon is in the present moment. And you stand in between the two of them, breath drawn and prepared to brawl.
“Hey…ghost…” You repeat, voice a bit more hesitant than last time.
“Hey yourself, doll…” He smiles back, the vision almost charming, were he not some sort of manifestation of the dead.
Eyes wide as saucers, you almost expected the ghoul to be silent or at least not reply in such a…seductive voice? He takes a step closer to you, seemingly forgetting about the third party in the room.
“What? Surprised I have such an eye for beauty?” The ghost laughs back.
Egon opens his mouth, your name on his lips before the spirit flicks his wrist and sends him flying off to some corner of the room. Your hand moves to cover your mouth covering your small gasp. You’re just about ready to charge, when the ghoul summons you closer as well.
“Aren’t you a pretty thing,” he says, a finger moving gently under your chin.
You make no move to protest, eyes stuck on the being in front of you. A moment later, your eyes flicker over his shoulder to Egon just barely recovering, face drawn in a scowl. You quickly focus back on the ghost and decide on a plan.
“You’re…fairly charming yourself.”
Egon glares back, unbelieving of what you, his wife, just said. His proton pack powers on.
The ghost just smiles back at you, hand moving gently to your waist. “Oh you think so, huh? Good to know.”
You just smile right back, keeping up the playful little game you’ve started. “Definitely the most charming ghost I’ve met by far.”
“And have you met many?” He huffs a small laugh.
“You’d be surprised…” You giggle right back.
He settles into a patient smile and pulls you in even closer. “Glad to know I’ve beat the competition. And what about the more…comporeal beings?” He asks, noticing the ring on your finger.
You swallow glancing down at your finger as well and decide to double down on your efforts, “I’d say you’re far more interesting.”
“Hm,” He hums, the sound turning to a small giggle. Eyes flick to your lips. He leans in, “Well then how about we—“
His statement is cut off abruptly as the blast of the proton pack shocks the ghoul. In a flash, a ghost trap slides across the floor and the spirit’s boxed up for good.
You let out a sigh of relief.
— ★ —
“Now that’s what I call an open and shut case, ladies and gentlemen!”
Beers clink as the team sits around the same table they did hours before, celebrating another win. Peter’s boisterous voice blares across the small crowd and he ushers you into a small side hug.
Ray raises his beer in solidarity before taking a swig, while Winston laughs along too.
You giggle, happy to see everyone in such high spirits after a fairly stressful 24 hours. That is until your eyes casually drift over to your husband, who’s currently trying to sneak off.
You appear in the doorway to the lab a few moments later with a soft smile and joking tone.
“Did Venkman finally annoy you enough to run away entirely?”
Egon glances up at the sound of your voice. He sighs a small attempt at a laugh, “No…no.”
You climb down the final step of the staircase and walk over to his side. Your hand moves to his hair, pushing it back behind his ear, but he stops your hand. He gently moves your palm down, clutched tightly in his own.
“What’s wrong?”
Egon closes his eyes for a moment and grumbles. “Nothing.”
A soft breath out in frustration, you stand firm and decide to finally push the subject. “I get that you think I’m not cut out for this or capable like you are, but you don’t have to try and hide it, okay?”
As the words spill out quickly, Egon stares back, genuinely surprised. “I didn’t— I did not say that.”
“You don’t have to say it,” you justify. “Your actions say enough. You didn’t want me going on the call and then on the ride there–“
Egon says your name softly and you quiet down. He stands from his seat and moves closer to you silently.
“I didn’t want you getting hurt, and I didn’t want, well…” he stops short.
Your eyes stay trained on him and you squeeze his hand lightly.
He continues, “You’re more than capable. More than adequate. I just…I don’t like the thought of you finally realizing I’m not.”
“What?”
He sighs softly, willing himself to continue. “I knew the particular subset of skills required for this call and seeing you…conversing with the spirit…”
“Egon,” you say softly, “I was acting.”
“Acting or not, one can infer–“
“One can infer nothing.” He looks back up at you, silently staring. Your head gives a small shake. “Do you have any clue why I married you?”
“Because of a genetic imperative to find an adequate mate and produce offspring.”
“Because I love you.”
His face heats up a bit as he keeps his eyes trained on you. The words process. “Oh.”
“Yeah,” you smile back and move in closer, he easily lets you. And you push up to press a kiss to his forehead. He leans into the feeling. Nothing else feels quite as nice as when you hold him dearly.
summary: ray invites a psychic to help them on a job
pairing: ray stantz x psychic!reader
word count: 1.8k
a/n: this turned out so long and is kind of niche but dr. ray stantz if you read this im free on thursday night and would like to hang out. please respond to this and then hang out with me on Thursday night when i’m free.
Spooks and specters aside, Ray liked to think that he was a reasonable, level-headed man.
His friends, however, tended to disagree.
“C’mon, Ray, you can’t believe everything this crack says just ‘cause they’re a smokeshow,” Peter chastised him from the passenger seat.
“I consulted with multiple colleagues before I even thought about using their services. I will have you know that—”
“Ah, and I’m sure those colleagues had a plethora of scientific backing.”
“You weren’t even there,” Ray scoffed, “if you would just set your biases aside for one second, one second—”
“OH, please!”
“—you might actually learn something valuable!”
“You know, this is getting ridiculous, Ray.” Peter shook his head, looking out the window.
“Ridiculous, I’m being ridiculous, that’s rich.” Ray muttered to himself.
Egon’s monotone voice broke through from the backseat, “The accuracy of the reading was quite impressive.” He didn’t bother looking up from the gadget he was toying with.
“Thank you!” “Not you, too!” Ray and Peter exclaimed in unison.
“Look, Ray,” Peter turned in his seat to face his friend, “a few lucky guesses doesn’t mean someone’s qualified.”
“Last I checked, you didn’t have any better ideas.” Ray retorted.
“Just because I don’t have any better ideas doesn’t mean this is our only option.”
Ray cut the wheel sharply into a parking spot, narrowly avoiding the other parked cars as Ecto-1 jerked to a stop.. “Pete, our equipment isn’t giving us accurate readings, the spirit is non-communicative, and there are too many objects to know which one it’s attached to. This discussion. Is. Over.”
Three car doors were flung open—only two slammed shut.
”What happened to ‘I’m not stepping foot in that scammer’s lair’?” Ray threw over his shoulder.
“If you think I’m letting you go in there alone to get manipulated by a con artist, you’re even crazier than I thought,” Peter scoffed, “especially now that Spengler’s compromised.”
“I can assure you that I am not compromised.”
“Whatever, Pete,” Ray pushed open the door to the apartment complex, “just…don’t be yourself.”
————————————————
Peter lectured Ray the entire way up to the fifth floor, and was about to octuple down on his argument when the plain door opened, cutting him off.
The psychic smiled warmly at the trio.
”Dr. Stantz, Dr. Spengler, welcome back,” they moved aside, gesturing them into the apartment, “and you must be Dr. Venkman. Welcome, my name’s Y/N.”
Y/N extended a hand, and Peter gave it a brief shake.
“Yeah, pleasure’s all mine.”
If looks could kill, Ray would’ve killed Peter a long time ago.
”Thank you for seeing us on such short notice, Y/N.” What Peter gave in sarcasm, Ray made up for in sincerity.
”It’s no problem at all—please, take a seat.”
Ray promptly sat in the plush chair closest to Y/N, and Egon took the other, leaving Peter sitting on a low cushion on the floor.
Y/N gave them another smile, “What can I do for you gentlemen?”
”Well—“ Peter began, but was promptly cut off by Ray.
”We have a job, you see. A client recently inherited his great-uncle’s estate, but there’s this poltergeist—real nasty one. We think it has an attachment to something in the house, but we can’t figure out what.”
Y/N nodded, “Hm, I see.”
Peter butted in, “These goofs were hoping you’d come to the house and be their ghost hound.”
”Peter.” Ray gave him a warning look.
”And I take it you don’t want my help?” Y/N raised an inquisitive brow.
”I mean, don’t get me wrong. I appreciate that you need to make a living. I’m just not buying it.”
“I am so sorry about him, Y/N,” Ray started.
Y/N just laughed, their focus still on Peter.
“Last week. You were on a date—she was a little too young for you, by the way.”
Peter opened his mouth to speak, but Y/N cut him off.
”You thought you were going to get lucky, but she got cold feet, kicked you out of the car and drove off with your pants. Left you there, hanging in the breeze.”
”How did you—“
”There’s a man with you, he saw the whole thing. Says his name’s Bill. He couldn’t wait to tell someone about it.”
Peter gaped at Y/N, speechless for possibly the first time in his life. Images of his late uncle Bill flashed in his mind. He had always found humor in other people’s misery.
Y/N turned their attention to Ray, who was already looking at them in awe. “I would be happy to help,” they briefly looked over his shoulder with a warm smile, “your mother says hello, by the way. Lovely woman.”
“Th-thank you.” Ray stammered a bit.
“You were actually my last appointment of the day, if you would like to go now.”
Peter shot up from the cushion, heading toward the door. “Great, let’s go.”
He just wanted to get Y/N out of his life before they could reveal anything else about him.
”Don’t mind him.” Ray smiled at Y/N apologetically.
“Oh, trust me, I won’t.” Y/N beamed back, grabbing their things and following Ray out the door.
————————————————
Ray guided Y/N into the passenger seat, much to Peter’s chagrin.
He was back to his usual self, leaning up from the backseat and gripping the back of Ray’s seat as he questioned their new addition.
”So these people—spirits—are just watching us at all times.”
”Well, yeah,” Y/N laughed softly, “unfortunately, they don’t have much else to do.”
Peter sat back in his seat, looking mortified.
”Really makes you reconsider how you act, right?”
Peter thought for a moment.
”Nah, nothing Casper can do about it, anyway. Bunch of creeps.”
Ray scoffed. “Very inspirational, Pete,” he snuck a glance at Y/N, “I know I’ll be thinking twice the next time I pick my nose—figuratively speaking, of course. I do not pick my nose.”
“Of course,” Y/N laughed, “but really, you can’t stop living just because you might have a few spectators.”
”See, they get me.” Peter lightly slapped Ray’s arm before he turned into the driveway and put the car in park.
Y/N exited the car, looking up at the house.
”Are the owners home?” They inquired, glancing at Ray.
”No,” he lightly jingled his keyring, “they gave us the spare key while we figure this out.”
Y/N looked back at the house.
”Oh…well, there’s a woman upstairs. She looks upset.”
”Yeah, they must be pretty angry. Keeps throwing things around and killing the power.”
”No,” Y/N frowned, starting toward the house, “she looks…sad.”
Ray followed Y/N, unlocking the door and guiding them to the staircase.
”I think you may have this ghost misunderstood. The energy here is…” Y/N paused, thinking, “low…but I don’t think there’s anyone here that means harm.”
The pair moved through the house, Peter and Egon left down in the foyer.
”Activity has been most concentrated in the master bedroom, the door to your left.” Ray nodded at the slightly ajar door. “We think that what we’re looking for is in there.”
Y/N wordlessly nodded and walked to the bedroom, pausing abruptly in the doorway.
”Oh, hello,” they greeted the air in a soft voice.
Ray craned his neck from the hallway, seeing nothing in the room. Y/N, however, had their eyes trained on the vanity.
”I see…” They shot a solemn look at Ray. “She’s been here for a long time.”
“That doesn’t make sense,” Ray rubbed his chin, “our clients said this activity was new.”
”The activity may be new, but she isn’t.” Y/N now stood by the vanity, lightly trailing their fingertips across the assorted beauty products, jewelry, and papers strewn across the surface. “She stayed back to be with her husband, at first…but now that he’s gone…”
Ray nodded sympathetically, “she doesn’t know how to move on.”
Y/N opened a small drawer with a sigh, picked up an envelope, and gently pulled out a yellowed piece of paper.
”She wrote it for her husband.” Y/N’s eyes scanned the letter. Before long, a tear fell down their cheek and they folded the letter up before reaching back into the envelope and pulling out a small ring.
Y/N slipped both the letter and the ring back into the envelope, wiped the tear from their cheek, and turned to Ray, handing him the letter.
”Here,” their voice sounded small, like they were taking on the pain of the spirit, “you’ll have to burn it…hopefully she can find him.”
Ray silently followed them out of the room, out of the house, and back into the car. Peter was asking Y/N and Ray a new question every other second, but Ray simply brushed him off as Y/N rested their head on the window, looking drained.
The rest of the drive was quiet, and Ray offered to walk Y/N to their apartment upon arrival. He shot Peter a look, silently letting him know to not follow.
The silence continued the whole way to their door, where Y/N cleared their throat and looked at Ray. “Thank you for walking me.”
”It’s no problem,” Ray smiled and stuffed his hands in his pockets, rocking slightly on his heels, “it really affects you, doesn’t it?”
Y/N sighed, looking down at their hands, suddenly very interested in the rings adorning their fingers.
”Only sometimes,” Y/N sighed again, “when I’m too empathetic for my own good. I just couldn’t imagine…being left behind like that.”
Ray reached out to lightly grasp their upper arm. “Well, hey…at least there’s folks like you here to help those left behind, right?”
”Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Y/N met his gaze, “thanks, Ray, really.”
”Anytime.” Ray gave their arm a light squeeze and dropped his hand to his side.
Neither of them moved to retreat.
”Well…I’ll let you get back to your work.” A slight blush powdered Y/N’s cheeks, and they suddenly felt embarrassment blooming in their chest.
Before the door could close between them, however, Ray stepped forward.
”Wait!” He blurted, feeling an embarrassment of his own creeping in. “Can I…see you again?”
Y/N gave him that warm smile that made him feel like they were the only two people on Earth.
”You know where to find me.”
Ray lingered at their door for a moment after it closed, feeling light, before retreating back to the car.
”Oh, no!” Peter cried out as Ray slid into the driver’s seat. “I know that look! Don’t tell me you’re gonna start bringing them around on a regular basis—I do not need any more spirits airing out my business.”
Egon cut in from the backseat, “I, for one, would enjoy hearing more of what Bill has to say.”
”Well I never want to hear from Bill ever again,” Peter gave Ray a serious look, “Oh, don’t smile, Ray. It’s a serious breach of privacy. You can’t expect me to—“
Ray turned up the radio, drowning out Peter’s wailings.
He drove into the night, the smile never leaving his face.
Prompt: When you and Peter are left alone to experiment with a suspicious, blue, viscous slime, things go south and Egon comes home to you having a paranormal induced panic attack.
Warnings: panic attacks, autistic meltdowns, sensory issues, detailed descriptions of sensory issues, feeling uncomfortable in one’s own skin.
A/N: Back in my Ghostbusters era. It is contractually obligated that I must re-obsess every time a new movie comes out. I’ve loved Egon since I was a little kid. I can’t believe I’ve never written for him. The italics are flashbacks. This is crossposted on my AO3 adriansglasses.
The reader is intended to be autistic, but can be read any way you’d like. Anyone is allowed to relate and see themselves in the reader wether they’re autistic or not!
You were sitting at your desk with in your small shared lab with Egon in the firehouse when you heard footsteps. You thought you had been home alone until Peter walked in.
“What are you doing here? I thought you were going on a double date with Winston while Ray and Egon were at the movie.” You questioned him, putting down your pen. You had been taking notes on a new kind of slime the boys had found. It was different from the other slime they’d found last month when Vigo was trying to take over. While Vigo’s slime was pink in color, this slime was blue and had a more viscous consistency.
“Oscar had a fever, so Dana and I decided to cancel. She thinks he’s getting his first tooth.” Peter smiles. Despite the jokes he’s made and the amount of times he’s said he was nowhere near ready to be a father, he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t happy being back with Dana again and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t love Oscar just as much as he loved her.
“Did Winston still go?” You ask.
“Oh, yeah. He’s probably back in her apartment with the bed rocking as we speak. No way he’s coming home tonight.” Peter laughed at his own joke as you cringe.
“You’re disgusting.” You roll your eyes.
“What are you up to tonight? Got a hot date with a slime? Not too different from your usual dating life.” He chuckles.
“You’re such a dick, Venkman. I figured while everybody was out tonight I’d try to find out SOMETHING about this new slime. Egon and I have been studying it for two days and we have literally nothing.” You gesture to the blue goo on your desk.
“Do you need help?” He asks.
“Are you offering to help me on your night off?” You ask, shocked.
“I’ve got nothing better to do.” Peter shrugs.
“Are you gonna take it seriously?” You hesitate.
“I’m always serious!” Peter bluffs. Peter was never serious. Egon was always serious. His bluntness and black and white thinking had always been a comfort to you. He wasn’t some puzzle you had to figure out. He just was. Being with him wasn’t a guessing game the same way it was with Peter.
“Somehow that’s hard to believe, but I could really use your expertise in parapsychology, so I’ll say yes.” You sigh. You know this probably isn’t the best idea, but Peter knows more about this topic than you do. You’d be stupid to reject his help.
“If you’ll be the subject, I’ll run the experiment.” He says, taking out the helmet with wires.
“Okay.” You agree. Once the helmet is on you should be connected to a series of machines able to read the energy of your emotions, as well as the slime itself, giving you a more direct connection without touching. Peter starts asking you a series of questions, trying to draw different emotional responses.
“Think of a time when you were happy, really happy.” He prompts. Your mind, wandered around the room, trying to think of something, when your eyes landed on Egon’s book sitting on his desk.
It made you think of the first time you realized you had deep feelings for him. While you’d always thought he was attractive, you realized your feelings were deeper than you thought, far beyond a harmless little crush, one day when he let you borrow his book. As you read his notes in the margins you were able to analyze things like him, see the world through his eyes. You saw how his brain connected and processed things. You always liked the person he’d shown you, but writing in the margins is different. When you take notes in a book, you’re not putting on a mask for people to see. Notes in the margins are just for you. There’re your unfiltered thoughts. Seeing who Egon was when nobody was watching was different. He was funny, smart, deep, curious, not as confident as he pretended to be; he didn’t censor himself in his books. He wasn’t quiet in his books. Reading his margins felt intimate.
“You’re thinking about Spengler, aren’t you?” Venkman teases.
“Why would you say that?” You look at him, embarrassed.
“Because you’re in loooooove!” Peter mocks.
“Can we change the subject?” You practically beg.
“Think of a moment where you were uncomfortable.” Peter prompts.
“This conversation.” You fiddle with your fingers.
“No, really. I wanna see how it reacts to discomfort.”
“Fine.” You sigh. You think back to one of your many lab accidents. Working in a lab with sensory issues is never easy and that was something you and Egon both struggled with.
You think back to the day when you superglued your fingers shut by accident. You got them apart, but you couldn’t get the the residue off. You started to hyperventilate, on the verge of tears. You wanted to hit your hands on things, but you knew that wouldn’t help. You couldn’t peel off the glue without peeling off your skin.
“What’s wrong?” Egon looked at you puzzled, and a bit worried.
“Superglue! I- I- I can’t get it off!” You shake your hands, violently, your whole body is tensed up.
Egon quickly takes a bottle out from his desk drawer and runs over to you. He grabs your hands.
“Look at me, (Y/N). It’s okay. I’ll take off all the residue.” He promises, giving you a soft smile. Despite not liking seeing you in such discomfort, he forces the smile to help calm you down. He begins to massage the liquid from the bottle onto your fingers with a rag.
“See, it’s okay. It’s coming off.” He continues to speak softly, calming you.
“What is that stuff?” You ask.
“I wish I could say it’s some sort of fancy, scientific, protective disinfectant, but as it so happens it’s only nail polish remover.” You both chuckle quietly. “Janine gave it to me the last time I got superglue on something and couldn’t get it off.” He smiles down at your hands, still focused on getting the last little bit off.
“This slime is so different from the mood slime. I thought I saw it let go of a bubble, but it’s mostly doing nothing. I think it might be dead. I think it might be time to bury it in the backyard.” Peter begins to fake sob.
“Knock it off.” You laugh. “What backyard? This is Manhattan!”
“You should try touching it.” Peter suggests.
“Egon, said I should under no circumstances touch it directly, especially while he’s not here.” You inform him.
“Well Egon, is being overprotective. Nothing bad happened when everyone else touched the pink slime and I accidentally ate green slime once.” Venkman says.
“What do you mean accidentally?” You ask.
“It was our first mission. Slimer ran through me. It was a whole thing. I think you should touch it… You might be able to figure out what it is before Spengler gets back…” He tries to change your mind.
“You’re sure there were no serious side effects from touching the other slimes?” You ask, hesitantly. Egon would be annoyed if he found out you went against his pleas to keep your hands away from the plasma, but you wanted to impress him.
“Nothing serious. I grew an extra pinky, but they cut it off.” He jokes.
“Haha, very funny, Venkman.” You roll your eyes.
“Fine.” You sigh, taking a deep breath before plunging your hand into the blue viscous goo. “Oh…This is literally fine.” You feel no effect, but when your heart rate picks up you realize you spoke too soon. You fall onto the floor, knocking over the slime. You feel like your heart is racing, like it could beat out of your chest and you can’t suck enough air into your lungs. You’re terrified.
“(Y/N)!” Peter yells, rushing to the floor to help you. He tries to touch the the hand not covered in blue slime, but you push him away, sobbing. You don’t want him anywhere near you. You’re slipping away from reality into a deep state of panic and paranoia.
“Please! No!” You sob. It’s the only thing you can manage to get out. You barley recognize Peter anymore. He doesn’t feel like a friend. He feels like a threat.
“Honestly, the movie was quite terrible. Ray stopped for a 99 cent pizza on the corner. What did you- (Y/N)?!” Egon speaks as he enters the room, cutting himself off when he notices you’re in distress.
“Pete, what happened?!” Egon questions once he sees Venkman.
“We were doing an experiment and they touched the goo and they just started freaking out. They won’t let me near them.” Peter tells him, obviously shaken. You hear the two men, but you don’t process them. It’s like you’re underwater.
“This is different from their usual sensory issues. I think they’re having a panic attack.” Egon kneels in front of you. “(Y/N), you’re okay. You’re safe. You’re in the firehouse. I’m here.” He tells you slowly.
“I- I can’t breathe!” You gasp for air.
“Your lungs are expanding and contracting at a rate too fast for your body to intake oxygen. I need you to try to breathe slow and deep with me. In…and out. Nice and slow.” He prompts. “Peter, I need latex gloves and towels.” Venkman could have made multiple jokes about Egon’s command, but looking at you this way made him uneasy. It wasn’t the right time. After being handed the gloves, Egon slipped them on and got to work cleaning off your slime covered arm. You begin to sob, overwhelmed by the feeling of the slime, the latex gloves, and the towel. It was difficult to handle on top of your panic attack. “Peter, we need to get them into the decontamination shower.”
“No!” You gasp between sobs.
“Come, on. I’ll go with you. We can get all the plasma off of you.” Egon speaks softly, but with a gentle urgency, as he tries to coax you to the shower. You shake your head no. “Are you against touch right now?” He asks.
“They did not like when I touched them.” Venkman warns.
“Only you-“ You break out in a sob. It doesn’t even cross your mind that you may be offending Peter by only wanting Egon. Luckily he’s not offended. Egon begins to take off his glove to provide skin to skin contact on the arm not drenched in slime in an effort to comfort you.
“Aren’t you worried about getting that stuff on you?” Venkman questions, worried Egon will shutdown like you.
“I’m getting in the decontamination shower anyway.” Egon shrugs, turning to you. He takes your hand in his, softly rubbing the top with his thumb.
“But- but your clothes will get all wet!” You sob. You knew Egon had his own sensory issues. You’d often have to help him when his long sleeves would get wet during experiments. It would drive him crazy. He avoided puddles like the plague and always had an umbrella nearby.
“Try not to worry about me right now. I just want you to focus on your breathing. I can always change my clothes.” He smiles. While it hurts him to see you so distressed, he was happy to know you cared about his comfort. “Let’s go shower. You can’t leave all that slime on you. I believe it’s worsening your mental state.” You nod, still crying.
“I’ll get them under the shower, I’ll need you to turn it on. Make sure not to touch the slime. I got a minuscule amount on my finger and it’s making me rather anxious. I can only imagine what this amount is doing to them.” Egon tells Peter. He helps you to stand, walking your trembling form over to the shower. “There we go. Just a few more steps. You’re doing wonderfully, (Y/N).” Egon softly attempts to comfort you.
Once you’re under the shower head, Venkman turns it on. Both you and Egon jolt at the sudden water pressure. He tightens both his jaw and his grip on you, holding his eyes shut tight. He can’t stand the feeling of his wet clothes against his body, but he’s brave for you. Once adjusted to the water, Egon begins to wash the slime off your body with care. Peter leaves to go upstairs and get you some towels. You feel the panic and paranoia start to leave your body. Despite still being incredibly anxious, you were starting to phase out of your slime induced panic attack. You lean against Egon, struggling to hold your own body weight. Maybe you’ll be more embarrassed tomorrow, but right now you just needed to be held. You were craving pressure on your body. You felt as if you would float off the ground if you weren’t held down. Egon wraps his arms around you, bringing you closer. He places a kiss on your forehead before placing his chin on top of your head. You snuggled into his chest, finding his pulse. You didn’t have the time or the bandwidth in your brain to think about what the kiss meant. You just wanted to be close to him.
“You’re okay, (Y/N). You’re safe.” Egon tells you. You’re not sure if it’s for your benefit or his. It’s for both, really.
You’re quiet for most of the night, unable to bring yourself to speak. Egon doesn’t mind. He thinks a verbal shutdown is more than understandable after the night you’ve had. After the shower, you follow Egon around the fire station. You don’t want to be alone right now. He doesn’t mind. He puts out some of his clothes for you to wear; pajama pants and one of his soft sweaters. He goes to leave the room for you to change, but you stop him.
“Can- can we just like? Turn around?” You ask. “I’m sorry. If you’re uncomfortable, that’s okay. I just really don’t wanna be alone right now.” You voice is hoarse from crying.
“Of course.” He smiles, turning around.
“I’m decent.” He informs you after a minute of rustling.
“Me too.” You tell him and you both turn around.
“I’m sorry.” You tell him, near tears again. You feel awful for how tonight went. This was supposed to be the boys’ day off. Egon gives you a sad look.
“You have nothing to be sorry for. You were just trying to help. Venkman told me he put you up to it anyway.” Egon sighs.
“I probably shouldn’t have listened to him.” You let out a sad chuckle, one tear slipping past you, down your cheek. You wipe it quickly.
“Never listen to Venkman.” Egon gives a sad laugh.
“At least we figured out what the slime does… Egon, can I ask you a question?” You hesitate.
“Well, you just did, but yes.” He smiles, joking to lighten the mood. You smile at him.
“Why did you do all that? You took off your gloves, putting yourself at risk and then you put yourself through sensory hell just to get me cleaned up.” You question him.
“Isn’t it obvious? (Y/N), I care about you.” You look at him, thinking about the tone in his words. You can’t quite decipher it, but there’s something else there. Is it possible he could feel the same way about you that you feel about him? “You should get some sleep.” He interrupts your thoughts. “If you’d rather not be alone, you may sleep in my room tonight. I would find it beneficial to monitor you overnight to watch for long lasting effects, anyway.” He adds.
“Only if that’s okay with you.” You hesitate.
“Of course it’s okay with me. I just suggested it.” He smiles.
Once you’re settled into bed, Egon turns off the lights and climbs in next to you.
“Egon, I’m still anxious.” You blurt out into the dark.
“Do you need pressure?” He asks.
“Yes.” You say, hoping he doesn’t mind. He doesn’t seem to mind, as he scoops you into his arms. You cuddle into his chest, surrounded by him, surrounded by safety. You know this should be weird, but it doesn’t feel weird. As Egon kisses the top of your forehead again, bidding you goodnight, you wonder what this all means. You wonder what you are to each other. You feel you’ve crossed the line as friends, but you’re too tired and too awkward and too anxious to talk about labels. You and Egon never quite fit into boxes as people anyway. Your relationship didn’t need to either. Whatever this was between you was comforting. It was safe and it was going to help you sleep tonight.
I’ve been getting back into the ghostbusters fandom ( god help me) and I’m reminded just how racist this fandom is. Like so many times I will see something about the ghostbusters but only include Peter, egon and ray and remove Winston either completely or almost completely. Winston is a main character he’s not a fucking sidekick you can relegate to the background.I know the first movie played a role in this but A, he’s still much more involved then he is in a lot of fandom, B he’s completely a part of the ghostbusters from the second movie on including the comics, cartoons and video game, and C even if a and b weren’t true isn’t fandom ostensibly about changing cannon for the better. If fandom can remove the sexism and implicit Regan apologia from the movie there is no reason to keep the Anti- Blackness.
