well, because you didn’t want to ruin your friendship.  they say if it’s not broken don’t fix it, and you applied that to your friendship with tom.  you liked him, he liked you, and you both knew it, but really were content to just sit on it.  so you guys would be like hangin out one day and his shirt would slip up and you’d see the band of his underwear and the strip of skin right above it and oh my you’d wonder why can’t i just get over it and do it? you’d tried hooking up with other guys, guys from tinder, guys in bars, whoever, and you knew it made tom feel bad.  it made tom feel the way you felt when he brought girls back to the apartment you guys are roomies too bc why not but you’d just be in this intense battle of wanting to do the thing and also not wanting to ruin your friendship
