Halloween cupcakes were the easiest dessert to make for the trainers that come to the sanctuary on Halloween night. That’s probably why Lori was trying to teach Red how to make them so they would be able to make enough for all the kids. As for Red, he was just happy to have some sweets given his massive appetite and sweet tooth.
“Alright…eggs, flour, vanilla, milk, yep I think we got everything!” Red was licking his lips, this was going to taste great! However first he had to figure out how to cook it. Taking a bowl from the cupboard, Red tries to copy Lori exactly. And the amazing part? He was doing a pretty good job of it too! Maybe what the problem was that Red needed someone to copy to get things right. He was pretty proud of himself actually. Seems the curse of the men of his family being horrible cooks was broken.
That’s when he saw the electric mixer out on the table. Given they wanted these cupcakes to be fluffy, they couldn’t use just a large wooden spoon to make this, what they needed was this mixer to make air bubbles in the batter making it light and fluffy. Red himself had never used a mixer like this so seeing it right there out and about was intimidating. His mother could use one pretty well, but when he tried the last time to help his mother mix with one, they both had batter scattered all over them. But again this time they were both doing this at once since Lori had her own electronic mixer.
“Okay! Don’t worry! I got this!” Copying the level Lori had it on and turning on the motor, Red seemed to be stirring the batter flawlessly. There was no mess and the food hadn’t messed up at all! It was almost as if they were witnessing a miracle! Red’s eyes sparkled like a young child who did something amazing for the first time.
Normally you shouldn’t be excited about these things, but to Red it was as if he was riding a unicycle on a tightrope, doing something that was thought impossible. However, after the novelty of his new skill wore off, Red began to get bored. This process was taking too long and Red wanted to hurry up with it. The trick to make the cupcakes fluffy was to stir fast, right? Then what about using higher speeds? Red glanced at the grey dial beside the mixer. Right now it was on normal, but what if he turns it another up? Discreetly Red turned the knob one time up. The mixing instrument started spinning faster now. Huh…it wasn’t causing any trouble. It still took forever to stir though. Wait…there was one more setting: “extra fast”. Maybe this will make it easier?
When they said “extra fast” they meant “extra fast” since Red almost lost hold of the mixer! The stir part spun like a top, covering everything in its path with batter!
“IT’S GOT A MIND OF IT’S OWN! AAAAAAAA!”
The whole kitchen was a mess now, and Red tried to stop the mixer himself like a person riding a rodeo bull. A moment of hepatic screaming and spinning later, Lori unplugged Red’s mixer stopping it in its tracks.
“STOP! AAAAAA!”“AAAAA…aaahh…huh?”
“……i-it…went crazy. N-Not my fault.”
