at    first     ,     when    elena    was    very    young    she    was    set    on    becoming    a    nurse    or    a    doctor    to    help    out    her    father     &    take    over    the    family    business     .     in    her    early    teens    her    mother    gave    her    a    journal    which    then    led    her    to    wanting    to    become    a    writer     .     it    changed    again    after    her    parents    death     .     she    was    aimless    until    around    the    time    she    got    into    a    relationship    with    stefan     .     until    her    death     ,     she    wanted    to    become    a    psychologist    specializing    in    the    supernatural     .     by    that    i    mean    that    elena    wanted    to    help    people    who    were    supernatural    beings    themselves    or    who    dealt    with    them    like    she    did    in    her    lifetime     .
