Happy Pride Month Everybody!!!
Need for more visitors signs and awareness of protection and conservation of the wildlife in Gibraltar. The Barbary macaque of Gibraltar are managed by the Gibraltar Ornithological and Natural History Society (GONHS) @gonhsgib and veterinarian expertise is provided by the Gibraltar Veterinary Clinic as part of the conservation effort. The macaques receive a daily supply of fresh water and vegetables, fruit and seeds as supplement to natural food resources (leaves, olives, roots, seeds and flowers). The animals are caught on a regular basis to check their health status. Additionally, body size, weight and several other measurements are taken. Finally, the animals are given a tattoo number and a microchip as a means of identification. But tattoos are not the only way to recognise individual macaques; many of them have particular marks, scars or spots which can be used as distinguishing features. All monkeys are photographed and the pictures and individual characteristics are catalogued. While I was on the Gibraltar mountain, saw this individual one sitting on top of the dustbin where visitors often throw waste including the beer and wine bottles. There many many groups of these macaques on the mountain and food area is dominated by any one group and others look for food outside and sometimes come to the town. Here in the image, the macaque is overlooking the straits of Gibraltar and to the left of the image is Morocco ( part of African continent and tree is blocking the view in the image) from where these macaques originally belonged to. Hope to see visitors signs and awareness initiatives about protection & conservation, not throw food openly and also not give food for them. Let them live like they lived in the wild and not be part of the human animal conflict. #barberymacaque #gibraltar #gibraltarmonkeys #gibraltarapexlegends #wildlifephotography #wildlifephotographer #nature_timeless #indianwildlifeofficial #wildlifeindia #naturein_focus #NiFHiveFeature #natureinfocus #nifhive #majestic_wildlife_ #animallovers #wildlifeconservation #sanctuaryasia #wildlifeshots #jewelsofnature #natgeoyourshot #animalplanetindia #natgeotravelindia #wildestindia #nuts_about_n (at Gibraltar, Great Britain) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeTPX1bLPSi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
