Montrose Street

Montrose Street runs one-way between School Street and Sycamore Street on the north slope of Central Hill.

Like so many other streets, Montrose has a succession of gabled roofs that creates a pleasant visual rhythm.

Running along the slope of a hill, Montrose also presents great opportunities for houses beyond houses.

At first glance the bands of color on this house struck me as strange. But on second thought I think the decreasing height of each band as you move up works.

It's almost as if this house was wary of breaking the Somerville mold with its brick construction and decided to tack on the non-brick entryway to fit in better.

The residents of Montrose St want to make sure you understand the parking situation.

A slightly older-looking representation of Jesus and the Sacred Heart than I'm used to seeing.

Montrose Court

Montrose Court is a short, dead-end street off of Montrose Street. The end of the street backs up to the Lowell Line.

Not too much to say about Montrose Ct, though it does have this colorful flag.

Madison Street

Madison Street runs between Sycamore Street and School Street on the north side of Central Hill.

I'm not joking about the hill bit. I'm glad I've never had to move in or out of the house at the top of these stairs.

When just walking along the street itself, though, it's easy to miss the slope.

The houses of Madison St provide some nice color.

Many of Somerville's houses have chain-link fences. This scroll-work offers a change of pace.

With all the Portuguese speakers in Somerville, you see lots of Fátima shrines around the city.

Jerome Street

Jerome Street is a short street that runs between Montrose Street and Jerome Court. It and Jerome Ct are really one street, but the vagaries of street-naming are often mysterious.

Jerome St has only a few houses, but they pack in a nice range of color.
