favorite word?
This is a great question, because before I had gotten it I figured out that I had a new favorite word, but it's not exactly a topic that comes up every day. In the past I've had other words I've claimed were my favorite... words like "infinitesimal" and "calibre" (that specific spelling) come to mind, and when I was like 10 or something I probably said it was "indubitably". But I don't care so much about those words any more. Nowadays, my favorite word is...
Gimmick
First, it's just fun. I like gimmicks. It doesn't have so narrow a use case if you have a nicer opinion of what a "gimmick" is, too, and at that point it just means "a unique element", which is a pretty broad category. So I say "gimmick" a fair lot more than my earlier favorite words.
It has a neat sound, too... it's got that unique start, with the gim-, and it also has a kind of symmetry to it. If you soften the ending, it comes out like "gimmig", a nice palindrome. Not that it should be spelled that way or anything, because the sharp K ending is nice. It's especially nice when it's plural. Gimmicks. You could spell that with an X. Very cool.
