VANITY – the excessive belief in one’s own abilities or attractiveness to others.
You knew you were easy on the eyes. It was something that you didn’t worry about, it was something that your anxiety didn’t touch ( but that’s a lie, now, isn’t it? ).
“Don’t tell me you only like me because I’m pretty, Ianthe,” you said one morning from where you had Ianthe pooled in your lap while sitting at the Ravenclaw table, trying your best to eat your breakfast and be social before she came and demanded your attention.
That earned you a pout. But not a move away from where she was in your lap.
“Or do, maybe I need to hear that, you don’t know.” Your words are a quiet rumble, the even tone that you’d hammered into yourself in third year — people were more likely to stay around you if you weren’t loud and brash… at least in your case.
Ianthe buried her face in your neck, and mumbled something you don’t remember anymore but at the time it made you laugh.
