Vatnajokull Ice Cave
Vatnajokull Ice Cave was captured within the southwest tongue of Iceland’s Vatnajokull icecap while on assignment to capture and document the year over year glacial retreat. The objective of the journey was to promote environmental awareness and education of the significant climactic changes occurring in the Arctic. The face of this glacial has seen more than a kilometer of retreat in 36 months time.

“This photo was taken inside a glacier cave in the Vatnajokull Glacier in Southern Iceland. Our guide took us in a 4x4 vehicle, across streams and many bumps until we reached the edge of the glacier. Then we put on crampons and hiked up the side of the glacier, then repelling a short distance into the ice cave. The sheer size of the cave was impressive, but even more astonishing was the blue color of the ice overhead. I liked the shots I took with people in them the best, as they showed the scale of the cave.”
