although i am aware that the rhineland and the surrounding regions are a mecca of post-war modern church architecture and i still have several buildings on my list to visit and photograph, i still come across surprises in this regard time and again and am delighted. here in hürth this happened to me with sankt severin, the modern extension of which was carried out by karl band, who is certainly no stranger. i think the extension of the neo-gothic original substance, with its simple but in the details quite refined design, is very successful.
obwohl mir bewusst ist das das rheinland und umliegende regionen ein mekka des nachkriegsmodernen kirchenbaues ist und ich noch mehrere bauwerke auf meiner liste zum besuchen und ablichten habe, stoße ich doch immer wieder auf überraschungen in dieser hinsicht und bin entzückt. hier in hürth passierte mir das mit sankt severin, deren moderne erweiterung von karl band durchgeführt wurde, der nun wahrlich kein unbekannter ist. ich finde die erweiterung, der neogotischen orginalsubstanz, mit ihrer schlichten aber in den details durchaus raffinierten gestaltung sehr gelungen.
