what is your opinion on season 6? i've seen a lot of hate for it but personally i quite liked it? the newbies were much more likable than the season 4 ones (who were just carbon copies of the og's imo) and while yes kurt and blaine getting back together should have been more fleshed out i was still kinda happy with the season?

ngl i definitely hated it for a while but i’ve absolutely come to appreciate it more in the last few years!! it’s kind of in the middle for me now - there are some really great episodes and some really shitty ones

here’s what i like:

the klaine arc - i’ve really grown to love it! there’s just so much delicious angst and pining??? sure it’s not what we had wanted to see but i think it works for the most part, even if it’s definitely rushed in some parts. i also love the character development we got for both Kurt and Blaine individually

i always want more NY but i do think the choice to go back to Lima and have the alumni be teachers worked and brought the show back to its roots a bit. as fun as the ensemble is i like that the main story was focused on a much smaller group of characters

i’m glad Rachel was allowed to *really* fail and face the consequences, then build herself back up. she has some great moments.

the newbies, yes!! definitely much more interesting than the s4 newbies, but the show also doesn’t try to make them main characters, you know? they’re there to support the Rachel/Kurt/etc. storylines

Brittana had a cute little arc and for the most part i think their relationship is the best it’s been since s2

Kitty is great in this season

what I don’t like:

SO much Vocal Adrenaline my god. i can’t stand the Clint guy (and he’s a terrible actor ugh) and he sings way too often

the meta/4th wall breaking was too much for my taste. Sue being a klaine shipper i actually find hilarious but the tone is so jarring

in general way too much Sue. Jane Lynch is great but god truly at this point no one cares about this character. why give her a whole retconned backstory at the very end??? also way too much Sue vs Will feuding. i’m so tired.

i don’t love the Beiste storyline. i’m all for trans rep (and i know some trans people like this story which is valid) but it just felt like they did it to do it and not because it made sense for the character. if they’d had more time to build it up i could see it working

honestly not a huge fan of the music. there are some great ones that stand out and i love the Carole King/Alanis songs but in general ehhhh

Sam/Rachel???? ugh so random and then they just never resolve it because Jesse comes back lmao what’s the point

i wish we’d gotten more story about Santana and Brittany’s careers! esp since Santana had so much of that built up in s4/5 and now we have no idea what they’re doing

oof this was a BIG thing way back when but basically tongue tied is this big happy montage of everyone celebrating, mostly with their significant others right? but then why does LITERALLY every couple get a kiss and/or multiple cute moments except for klaine??? look at this shit:

tike get a kiss

brittana get a kiss

finchel as usual are tonguing in the hallway

quinn and joe who are barely even a couple

fuckin’ rory and two random girls???

wemma having sex (i won’t even get into how gross it is that emma ~gives her virginity~ to will as a prize for winning nationals)

and then here we have the only times klaine are even in the same shot together 😑

so for klainers this was really the cherry on top of this whole season where they weren’t allowed to touch unless it’s a Very Special Episode and it was super frustrating. 

really i’m mostly over a lot of this stuff at this point and i do love this song but every so often i get riled up again haha

what is your opinion on kurt and blaine’s arcs in s4? as separate characters but also their relationships w each other and other characters like rachel sam and tina?

first of all sorry anon that I’m just getting to your question now I wasn’t sure how much I should get into it dfkljsfjlk but here u go

in general I’m not a huge fan of s4. which is not to say there aren’t a lot of good parts, in fact the stuff with Kurt and Blaine (separately and together) make up most of the good parts for me personally. the Klaine arc…idk it’s hard to tell because a lot of the break up/reconciliation story is pretty disjointed - there are big chunks of the season where nothing happens with them. mostly I could tell you the episodes or small moments that I really love, but as a whole story I’ve honestly relied so much on fic to fill in the gaps. their character arcs are very separate for most of the season, which I do think was needed but did they need to be broken up for that to happen? mm debatable….....

the cheating thing is a whole other convo oof it was kinda stupid but honestly I’m mostly over it (it took a long time,,, I think we were all in a collective depression after TBU aired). I think if they’d taken a little more time to build up Blaine’s headspace it wouldn’t have felt as OOC.

The Blaine arc is probably my favorite part of the season though! this is when he really gets to become his own character rather than an extension of Kurt and there are so many fun moments that come with that!! I love the Blam friendship storyline, the way that it progresses throughout the season. the Blina friendship is super cute too (minus the vaporape thing lmao)

on the other hand, s4 is the start of me just constantly yelling at the screen: this boy is DEPRESSED please get him a THERAPIST!!!!!! one of my biggest wishes for Glee/Blaine was that they would’ve explored his mental health because it’s SO obvious the way he talks about it in Dynamic Duets but then of course they never really do anything with it :(

the Kurt arc: I feel like in s4 they kept starting a story for him but never finishing it smh like the vogue.com stuff was great and then nothing ever comes of it. he gets into NYADA and then…he’s there, that’s it. Adam appears for like 2 seconds lmfao. I like Hummelberry in some parts of the series but s3-4 is really when Kurt just exists to prop her up and it gets so boring and frustrating after a while. idk I wish we’d gotten more of his coping with the break up, or figuring out his fashion vs performance dreams, or SOMETHING.

i have never liked santana’s coming out arc tbh (except for the abuela scene) i felt like it focused too much on finn?? and the fact they sang i kissed a girl (which has the lyrics it’s no big deal it’s innocent) just doesn’t sit right w me

oh god i’m with you i can’t deal with that damn episode. part of it is just the pure disappointment of how they dealt with her arc in early s3 when the s2 stuff they gave her was so GOOD and REAL but of course glee likes to hit the reset button on character development whenever we need the drama 🤪 especially with Santana i hate that they made her such a bully in those first few episodes of the season she just became too unlikable for me for a while

they absolutely made it WAY too much about Finn though like this lesbian WOC has literally NO agency in her coming out and is treated like shit so we can make the straight white man the hero??? no thanks!!! we’re not gonna let her talk to you know…any of the other queer characters on the show…..her girlfriend has maybe one line….she blows off Kurt and Blaine who have the most experience dealing with shit like this….but when Finn sings one (1) song in the most patronizing way possible she turns around and is magically okay with it all because idfk....they had sex once?????? sdlkfjsfdlksj okay glee

IKAG the song doesn’t bother me as much maybe bc it’s less offensive compared to the Finn stuff or that an actual lesbian is singing it instead of Katy Perry acting like she’s ~so scandalous~ for hypothetically kissing girls

(sidenote i cringe so hard every time they use the word “lady” in this episode idk it’s like when men refer to women as “females” ew)

i do love the abuela scene too and also the scene when the girls stick up for Santana before they sing! i feel like Ali Adler came in to work that week to write one scene and then the straight male writers were like alright we’ll take it from here byeeeee

imo s3 had some great songs but the storylines and the way characters were treated (santana, blaine, kurt, mercedes, the mf troubletones, quinn) makes it a lil hard to watch at times

oof yeah i’ve always had such mixed feelings over s3. i know there’s a lot of people that really like it and i get it in some respect…there’s a lot of emotion and nostalgia attached to it bc it’s the last season where all the OGs are at McKinley and there’s a lot of strong ensemble stuff. it miiiiight be my favorite season in terms of music??

but i completely agree when you actually watch it it’s like….awful plotline after awful plotline and it’s TIRING!!!! unless you really love finchel then basically your faves are all either ignored or suddenly become unlikable or just constantly shit on. it’s so much less cohesive compared to s1 & 2 and i def don’t think that having dozens and dozens of cast members helped

Are you cool with random unpopular glee opinions in your inbox? Because I've got one that I just need to SHARE. I think Schue was right to suspend Marley in Katy or a Gaga. Not because she didn't wear a bikini/skimpy clothes. But she actively disrupted the performance. She could have sat out or picked a conservative Gaga outfit (the "Joe" tux, for example). But no she dressed up "like a Katy" and pranced around the stage ruining the (admittedly already bad) performance. Suspension was warranted

okay i see where you’re coming from in a sense because she absolutely chose to wear a Katy costume as a way to be disruptive, and that is why Will suspends her. i agree that she could’ve gone about it in a much better way 

however……i really don’t think what she did is grounds for suspension?? it’s a pretty harsh punishment for a random performance they just did for themselves? like who cares tbh, and if Will were a better teacher he’d have tried to understand why Marley acted out (because she was understandably uncomfortable wearing a skimpy outfit at school) instead of immediately going to suspension. even for Will it seems a little out of nowhere - he’s seen some kids do awful shit but now is the time he decides to punish a student??

Season 3 is reallt when it became the Rachel show, even after the first couple episodes of the season really promised to shine a spotlight on characters like Mike and Mercedes and Brittany who had kind of been shoved off to the back of the class in s2. But by the end of the season Mike and Brittany barely have any dialogue or purpose to the story anymore. It became all about finchel and I think that did alienate a lot of fans and started the downfall of the shows ratings

yeah i think with s3 in particular glee really wanted to please everyone by trying give to stories to all the characters, but also refused to let go of having Rachel and Finn as the Main Characters. which of course ends with people disappointed because expectations get built up and then all we get is half-baked plotlines

and imo with a show like this you don’t NEED to give a big story to every character in an ensemble. with Mike and Brittany for example i didn’t necessarily need them to be as fleshed out for the show to work. but i’m definitely bitter about the way they treated Mercedes…like you’re really going to give her a plotline about how she’s been treated like shit and is severely underused….and then do nothing to fix it???? what????
